So, yeah, anyways I'm going in for a job interview tomorrow, hoping to get a part time job and earn a little cash to feed my addiction to computers a bit. Does anyone have any suggestions/tips on what I should be expecting? I'd be doing clerical/pc repair work for a local library. Thanks guys!
Just speak clearly, dress smartly, sit up straight, maintain good eye-contact, and use open, responsive, body language. All there is to it. PS: Prepare a couple of questions to ask at the end. If they answer the ones you thought of before during the interview, think of something else to ask. There's nothing worse than "Do you have any questions you'd like to ask" "Errr... nah". <EDiT> Oh yeah; learn about the company you are applying with. Like how many staff they have, their opening hours, just a couple of things so that you can answer the dreaded "So what do you know about our company/establishment?" without saying "Err... you're a library".
If they ask you a question, unless you can confidently BS them, confidently say you don't know (and remind them how quick of a learner you are). It looks better than stammering for an answer. And, if you're nervous, and forget an answer, but remember it later, just say that you'd like to go back and answer a previous question. Say you were just nervous. Be honest. They got the job the same way you did, an interview. They were nervous too, like most people, so they understand that. It's nerve-racking at first, but once an interview gets going, it gets a lot easier. Code: Oh yeah; learn about the company you are applying with. Like how many staff they have, their opening hours, just a couple of things so that you can answer the dreaded "So what do you know about our company/establishment?" without saying "Err... you're a library". Reminds me of a story I heard. A cat was applying for a job at IBM. The interview went great, his credentials were impeccable, he was perfect for the job. Until they asked him one last question. What does I.B.M. mean?
this is wierd, cos I just got a mail saying that Yahoo are recruiting ATM, so I thought you might be applying there....how odd. God luck
Kewl, i do that same job already, i only skim read this post, but someone mentioned "confidently BS'n" Thats what i done, i just blagged my way in, done an easy IT written test. obviously in a public library, you need to be outgoing, confident, helpful etc. helps if you can make them laugh. Good luck m8
Well, the interview seems to have gone pretty well. It was basically "Do you know how to operate a copy machine/computer/telephone/fax machine/typewriter and can you file/shelve stuff accurately I've been volunteering at the place for well over 4 years now, so I pretty much know how to do most everything in the job description plus a lot. Also it kind of helps that I've known the two people that interviewed me for years, so it was pretty cool. I was also informed that they are going to be hiring two people to fill the positions available, so I have a good chance The hours would be very flexible, and it would be the perfect type of job for me (a student). Now I wait and see...
Kewl and when you work in the Library, if someone annoys you, what you do is put a book about something embarasing like "gays - comming out - what to do" on thier card/account and make it overdue so they have fines to pay, and when they ask what the fines are for, you get to read the title of the book(s) out in fron of the entire public using the library... not that i would ever do that... im much to proffesional!
Well, I got the job! I'll be starting on April 7th Now I need to figure out how much of my paycheck the goverment is going to take away... /me does a little dance
They keep about 20%. You get a lot of it back in tax refunds though. I've got $200 coming to me in a few weeks that the feds owe me.
You'd be surprised at how many results google returns when asked "what does ibm stand for?" there are some amusing answers about too lookie here congrats on getting the jog yo-duh
Yes, congrats m8. have fun. and be-little old people who don't know anything for me just kidding about the be-littling part
