My car is pretty old and the lights have never been that good on it.

The plastic lenses are pretty yellowed and are obviously a major part of the cause of poor illumination.

Has anyone used any particular products to clean their lenses that actually worked.

I have just googled about it and got confusing responses, including not to use commercial products as they cause scratched and remove the UV protection ruining your lamps within months.

    So anyone got any ideas?

The good news is that they can be restored, the bad news is that if they're discolouted and cloudy, the UV protection is probably already gone and you're going to have to restore them again in the future. Get a decent restoration kit from someone like 3M and you'll have it done in less than an hour. How old is the car?

3000 grit sandpaper should do it. Might need some 2000 grit first if they are really bad.

Well 12 years is a long time and that amount of weathering and salt exposure will almost certainly have completely removed all of the UV protection, so you have nothing to lose. Whatever method you decide to try, please post some before and after pics in the detailing thread! Nobody has posted anything like that in there yet :)

At least you won't be blinding me at night, although good for me and other road users might not be great for you.

    PS, + 1 for toothpaste.

At least try to restore the old ones before replacing them!
