Budget only £400 and want to be able to play WOW, minecraft and perhaps more modern games at reduced settings. I will be costing a build myself but if anyone has the time to post a spec, I would be grateful.

You could scour Ebay for an old E8400 system and splurge on upgrading it. Should fit well within your budget. The E8400 processors were proven to be monster overclockers and there are loads of old Dell E8400 business machines on Ebay that go for pence. These machines will not have been overclocked befre so should still have good life to them. You could potentially build a decent 3.6 - 4ghz machine with an up to date gfx card (a 680 maybe?) good amount of ram and even a new motherboard for well within your budget. You could just look for trhe processor on its own but then you cant tell if it has been abused before and they sell for more than machines with them in anyway. (roughly £60 for the cpu whereas I have seen the business machines with E8400 in them sell for as little as £21 + £12 postage)

What resolution? Have you considered an AMD APU? It would run WoW without issues at reduced settings even at 1080p, and down the road a gpu can always be added in.
