I sold an item on the bay last night, but the buyer hasn't sent payment yet - not unheard of, but most people pay within a few hours. On top of that, the buyer has no ebay history. so, new account - everyone has to start somewhere, but a little voice in the back of my head is screaming "Scammer!". Does this sound like common scammer behaviour?
Not necessarily. They probably just aren't familiar with common ebay practices. Shoot them a message, and follow the payment rules and you should be ok.
Yep. If no payment is made contact ebay and they'll refund listing fee's then relist the item. Happened to a mate of mine twice while trying to sell his HTC EVO phone. Ebay is like that sometimes unfortunately.
Give em a chance, I've had some people take 2-3 days to pay. Sometimes they let me know why, sometimes not, doesn't bother me too much. I usually wait 2 days before sending the bay invoice thing, usually reminds them.
I've had buyers take several days to send payment, and only one occasion where I didn't receive payment (for a laptop, of all things). No harm done, apart from minor inconvenience... I just relisted and promptly sold the item. The scammer party doesn't start until you sell a lapped CPU and then have the buyer tell you it's damaged. LOL.
I have had a guy win an auction then decide not to pay - just went silent and ignored communication - after six days I reported him to ebay and he paid within an hour of ebay warning him. Looking into his history, all looked good, but ebay's system is broken - you cannot send neg rep to a non buyer, if you re-list it. So his score was positive, but around 30% of the comments were slating him as a time waster. That's why I'm automatically suspicious when people don't pay promptly.
As a general rule, I give people about 7 days to pay. if they don't pay withing 24-48 hours I send the invoice thing thru ebay, then if I still haven't heard anything within 5-6 days I send them a polite message saying if I haven't recieved payment within 48 hours I'll have to report them and relist the item. That seems to work more often than not. But people on ebay are just odd, I mean if you bid within the last minute of an auction surely your at your computer watching to see if you win, so its easy enough just to pay there and then, but I guess people use smart phones and may be out and about doing other things. My big rule of ebay is take a deep breath and be patient and remeber other people are idiots!!
I'm sure you'll all be shocked to learn that the buyer hasn't paid, and is ignoring all communication attempts from me and ebay - yes, I raised a non-payment case a couple of days ago. If I close the case and re-list the item, does ebay automatically refund the fees from the original non-sale?
Don't close the case yourself, wait for ebay to close it and you'll get a response says 'blah blah blah, you've been refunded the listing fees' A fair few people buy items on ebay knowing they don't have the money waiting just yet or its payday in a weeks time etc. I can honestly say of all the eBay issues I've had over the years, I don't even see non-payment as an issue as there's far worse situations to be in (especially as ebay presumes all sellers to be cowboy scum and decide everything from the buyers view be it truth or lies) - non payment is the easiest resolved by far
I'm just irked because this tw@t is wasting my time. Cheers for the info, chaps, I'll wait for ebay to close it.
My advise is if they ask you to close the case so they have a little more time.. don't. some ... disagreeable person left me negative feedback for refusing to post overseas when I said explicitly I would post only to mainland UK >8( They no longer have an account with ebay, but my feedback has suffered :'(
I've had the opposite side of the coin this week. I sold a few games to a buyer in spain. I usually don't have any problems with European sales, but this one unfortunately fell through. I sold the games to them back in May. As I usually state in my sales, that they can choose delivery with or without tracking. In this circumstance the buyer chose no delivery confirmation, to save money. I sent the items at the post office, but not before I take a picture of the items packaged up and the postage on it. I also take a picture of it with the post office cashier holding it behind the counter. Anyhow, this person waits until the very last days that they can claim non-receipt of item and launches a dispute with eBay. Now, rather than wait for my response, they immediately escalate it to a Paypal dispute. No warning. Nothing. Paypal then immediately take the money from my account, putting it in to negative and preventing me from buying anything else, unless I clear the negative balance. A**holes. I then email the buyer with my pictures, showing I definately sent it. Shock horror, I receive no emails back. I then respond to the Paypal dispute with the pictures I have of the Item being sent, and a copy of the post office receipt, with the cashier highlighting the paid airmail to Spain. I then get asked by Paypal for the tracking details, to which I respond that there aren't any, but as you can see from the pictures, I definately sent it to them. Anyhow, Paypal closes the case a couple of days later, citing not enough evidence to confirm I sent them...........okaaaay. I understand that the item may have gone missing somewhere during it's European trek, but why should I be punished for that. I explained to the buyer, that if you don't take the delivery method without confirmation, there's no gurantee. The moral of the story, is that Paypal hire complete emotionally devoid morons to review their disputes and somewhere in Spain, somebody is enjoying two new games for their PS3. I hate eBay..........
Their system does seem to favour the buyer a little too much, and plays right into the hands of scammers. I never give people the option of any other postage method - it's tracked or not at all. Don't like it? Fine, buy from someone else. I don't quite hate it yet, but I don't like selling on ebay. For the relatively small amount of sales I've conducted, the number of problems I've had seem much higher than I would consider an acceptable level.
Yep recently got screwed on eBay. Sent out a pristine motherboard, got the same motherboard back with all its VRMS scorched off. Nothing I could do as Paypal immediately froze my account which i had to then clear the debt in order to use it till it got sorted! Disgusting! You can usually tell it is an arsehole or a scammer as they open a case without any prior contact then just demand what they want.
eBay really is a shower of sh*te, isn't it... Scroome - not even pictures saved you? That's ridiculous. mrbungle - did you have pics of the board prior to sending it, to prove that the buyer was a c*ck?
I did but it wasn't a direct picture of the VRM's. I imagine the buyer would just say it blew up on them when used and therefore the case would favor with the buyer anyway. Doubt a picture would of changed anything.
