Here is my earlier blaster, built in 2009. More story and building pictures here: http://allthemods.com/userinfo.php?userid=5&album=667 Altough this blaster served well enough, I wanted MORE sound. I started building this blaster in the summer in 2010, and though it has been in use several times, it is not yet finished. Drivers are Visaton BG 20. I chose them for their excellent sensitivity. Altough quite cheap, They offer real bang for the buck. Amplifier is amp6 Basic from 41Hz.com. Digital and offers 2x15 W. I chose lithium-ion batteries over NiMh or LiPo, since they are more carefree. These are trustfire 18650 2500mAh 3,7V cells and in series they produce 14,8V which is ideal for the amp6. The casing is 4mm plywood and fiberglass. The main music player is an old internet tablet Nokia N800. I also added an USB/SD-card player which works with a remote. And of course there is a plug for external players like cellphones. Some leather ornaments and guard for the driver. My original idea was to paint the blaster perly white with some car paint, but since I was in a hurry to get it ready, I used spray paint. On impulse I chose fluo yellow. It came out quite aggressive Same pictures but more story here in Allthemods.com Comments? Better color suggestions?
Thanks! No need for more batteries.. These last playing for a day at full volume, and easily a weekend with medium volume. Though it would be easy to add another four in paraller if needed. There is yet space, and it wouldnt increase the weight too much. No they dont! They are temporary until I get the proper ones from lasercutting.
Hey, I really want to learn about how to make and mod electronics. I have access to some basic tools, because I'm friends with someone who fixes-up and mods motorcycles as a hobby. I also saved up about 85 dollars for a modding project of some kind, (which you have to remember is a large sum of money for a teenager). I decided that I wanted to start with building a really basic ghetto blaster. Would you guys help me with the electronic stuff?
This is an awesome thread. I came in here confused, saw the first picture and was intrigued, and then I see how you developed the idea fully and am quite amazed. It looks really great and it looks totally functional too. I've always wanted to get into fiberglass for projects like these with speakers. Very Nice.
Years go by but I finally gave the blaster a decent clearcoat. I was afraid the clearcoat would reveal the bumpy surface on the fibreglass parts, but to my suprise the surface was clear and smooth, yay. I also upgraded the components a bit. The nokia n800 is gone. It was really useless in sunlight anyway and the battery ran out way before the blaster battery itself would. Now there is a pre-amplifier for the input jack. (most phones have weak outuput) Lastly a bigger aplifier (sure-electronics 2x50W) and a 6s lipo battery to go with that. Ooh, upgrades. That really is a stunning piece of work, far nice to look at than anything a manufacturer has produced; that colour is just lush... Done anything else interesting lately?
