I find myself again asking an incredibly stupid question, but since google and BT reveal nothing..Is it alright to use a laptop abroad? I will be going to france and I believe there is a 110v voltage there as opposed to our 230..Do most lappys come with an auto voltage detector? The lappy isn't mine, (it's the government's! :worried:) so I don't fancy frying it.

Again sorry for the question, but I'd like to make sure when it's something as precious as this :duh:

Point One: it's the goverments, they can afford it, probably have aload sat in a room waiting to be used for gods sake
Point Two: if it is different all you need is a converter which can usually be bought from palces like argos etc... for under a fiver IIRC its the two pin plug instead of three so u'll just need the converter :thumb:

Could be wrong tho, i'm not 100% sure on what they have over there

/DeathAwaitsU, I don't know how it works in the UK, but in the good ol' USA, the government is rich, because we pay TAXES! So I don't think it would be a good idea to just say, ah, the hell with it, they've got more money, cuz guess where they're getting the money for those laptops. That's right folks, from your pockets. I work for the government, USAF, and see this kind of attitude every day. It really makes me sick to my stomache to see how many tax dollars are thrown away, because people forget where the money is coming from.

laptop psus are normally autoswitching for this reason, it shouldnt matter what you plug it into.

Yea, as bindi said it should be autoswitching. Take a look at the label on the PSU and if it says input coltage 110V ~ 250V @ 50hz os something similar then your good to go.
