Seen as the last one is too old to bump, I want to ask those in the know what mobile should I go for when its time to upgrade? I am presently due for an upgrade in May, however I am debating just taking my present contract down to the minimum payments required and get another one. I am currently torn between the E71, Blackberry Bold, or HTC Android / G1. Joe
Just got the G1 last month, i have nothing but good praise for it, except on battery life, but it accepts a mini usb charger and i'm never far from a computer for extended periods of time so it doesnt effect me.
I've got a E71 and am loving it so far. The keypad takes some getting used to as the keys are pretty tiny, although not as bad as i 1st thought as they're slightly rounded. It's not the most flashy mobile, but i've had quite a few people comment on it, it's a good looking phone. The camera is meh, dunno about the mp3 player as i use my W960i for that, although it doesn't come with a 3.5 mm socket so i've never been tempted to use it. The push email works well with Gmail, and the rest of the functions like alarms, calender, etc all work better than other phones i've used. Battery can last for quite awhile unless you're hammering BT, Wifi or 3g. Overall, i'm very pleased with it and would recommend it.
Another vote for the E71 here. Though admittedly i havent used the others. Voice quality is good, the keybaord is godly, and the battery lasts blinking ages if you aren't using gps/wi-fi/bluetooth/grps. The camera isn't the best, but it is fast, low light performance is very grainy. The video function is pretty impressive however, and managed to record gig level sound without distorting too much. e71 for sure. I used to use an iPhone and now i love my e71. Ive got 3G on all the time syncing my Gmail in real time, the battery last about a day and a half. Ive set it up to stop 3G when my battery is down to 15%. It then last about another day after that. Keyboard is fine once you get used to it. Internet radio is fun and the buttons on the front are really useful. Plus there's tons of programs for s60 and there's ways to get them for free.
Cheers for that guys, whilst there are some shiny functions on the G1, I really can't see it happening, plus at least the e71 and curve/bold are on orange - i'd have to wait til august to get the g1, whereas I only have to wait til may to upgrade. I'm hedging towards the Blackberry, but the e61 used to be able to MSN - can you still do that on the e71? Joe
The Xperia X1 is pretty nice if you can find it cheap, not worth the retail asking price, but it's pretty slick with some updates and WinMo apps.
depending on what network your on i would suggest the htc touch pro or any of the variants (t-mobile vario IV, XDA Serra, orange/voda touch pro) particularly if you email a lot, like to customise your device, want to do a helluva lot more than jus use it as a phone (read pdf's, ebooks, word/excel/pdf's) theres a HUGE following over at xda-developers.com and a helluva lot of customisations for the handset!
