    The railway bridge near us:

the defender has drain holes in the bottom (i.e. you can see the road:p)...so you get soaked driving through the water.

What does get at me is how all the news reports focus on "these badly hit areas", but here we're regularly badly hit (2' of water in the house...it's got 3' stilts). quite amusing how one side of the floor is dry whilst the other side is under though:p.

There's an awesome amount of water flowing past (our floods flow, the water can easily take heavy things away). the worst bit is as the water rises, but hasn't broken the sides of the garden etc, so all the crap in it concentrates itself (and i mean crap as we live downhill of the sewage plant).

having said that though...it's great fun:D the field next to us is 2' deep usually, and 22acres, so no matter what happens you can always walk home...

but, flooding is NOT to be taken lightly.

Mmm, I love Defenders, Land Rovers etc. My family lives back oop north in Derbyshire and they had some rather severe flooding when Sheffield was hit recently. Thankfully they live on an incline and my dads got a big landrover. Said it was great driving alone to where roads had flooded and stopped the traffic and the police were halting cars, but he was able to plough straight through. The rest of the staff at Bit-tech can all like Ferrari's and Porsches etc, but I'll always love Land Rovers because it's times like this where an engine snorkel is worth a lot more than a soft top ;)

Plus, Land Rover rallying on nearby farmland when I was a kid was fantastic!

    I thought you don't drive Joe? :p

You would've thought they'd cottoned on by now and made a way to waterproof your house.

Nothing much to complain about in Bristol, although I have to put up with my gf moaning about losing her perfect car because the guy drove it through a puddle and wrote it off, admittedly she did spend ages looking for it and she has quite a tight budget so another one like this might not come around for a while. But somehow in that conversation she was complaining that she gets to go on a Mediterranean cruise, all expenses paid courtesy of her mum.

Hope everyone here effected by the floods gets their stuff sorted ok, I heard a few companies were being a right pain with payments.

Nope, I don't drive. Though, if I did, I'd get a yellow car straight away.

Besides, nobody can stop me tearing up the mountains on my Grandads farm in a old Land Rover, License or not. :D

Jeez. We need rain over in Toronto. But whenever it rains in the Summer, there's a thunderstorm warning because the rainfall is very short-lived but unbelievably strong--some 400+ vehicular accidents in less than 10 minutes.

How about giving us some of that British water, eh?

we don't have flood insurance after it flooded in 2000 and 2003. they finally said no, so the attitude here is if it floats it can damn well float away and be rid of it.

someone killed their aston db9 near us...thoughtfully pushed it into the middle of a single track road and left it bonnet up etc. (i'm sure it wasn't funny. I mean, what were they thinking?!!?!?)
