I think a you've been banned email should be sent when u've been banned saying why, and duration. Just as a curtisy.

People who don't understand the admining phsyci are still going to argue-endlessly, so i don't think it would increase the hassel too much.

would just be a little more informative.

That would leave the door open for the banned person to try and argue against the reasons stated for his/her banning.

If I had a forum, I would send an email saying 'You've been banned - F-off!'

Firstly I'd like to say I normally email people I ban, but this is far from a curtisy.

We're understanding, quite laid back people here I think; someone earning a banning usually requires that they've abused the free service we provide quite thoroughly. We give them something free, they turn around and wee on our shoes and then you think it's our 'curtisy' to spend yet more time writing them an email explaining how we like to keep our shoes clean? I don't.

For both temporary and permanent bans I normally add a comment to the offending post on the fact & the length, a bit like this one,
and may send an email if I think a longer or more private message is needed. But basically, I prefer to make any comments here in public rather than mail and risk a twisted message getting back by IRC or whatever.

But when it's a first-day, first-post pimping, iPod scam or spamming it's just push the down button. They've wasted enough of my time.

9/10 you know why you've been banned so there isn't much point, just log out and view the thread as a guest.

I'm sure if you've been banned, it's for a very good reason. Rules are rules...no doubt about it. :D

yes but when ur banned you can read that, as easily as an email to you.

Also i make soo many offensive comments on various mediams i find it hard to track which ones have "crossed the line".

on the arguing point, i really don't think it will reduce the number of people doing that, i just take that as an "okay the people who run the site find that offensive, its their site, thats their porogative" so my moaning about it wouldn't get the descision reversed, i think it would just be a nice curtisy. (and yes i know its a free service but as soon as you have adverts we do become your target audiance, and as such you should be curtious to us, to a certain extent).

Its just a case of hmmm banned, what for... okay how many posts have i made lately, damn not logged in can't see easily.

but when its a first post thing, then no, i don't think theres a need, but myself both grand parents fighting in the war, still don't find it offensive, then again i do have a slightly noir sense of humor, so it was a bit of a, oh, thats why thing.

 You get to see everyones email address anyway though don't you? Being an admin and all, I know I can in other forums :naughty:

Anyway, I still think it's not necessary, if someone breaks the rules, tough.
