aww common, some "offensive" posts can be quite amusing at times. i don't advocate being an absolute ****, but jokey posts might occassionally be misconstued which is a shame. i like the funny come-backs and general sassing on the forums, makes the place a little less serious. overly insensitive posts do deserve suspensions though... and about the ban notifications; a short email to a longterm member explaining a suspension would be nice, but i can't see any point wasting time on a newly registered permabanned idiot.
i must be one of the 1/10 then i got banned and had no reason why, though requested. (not that im saying i didnt deserve it, i likely did, i just wanna know for what!!!!) as to weeing on your feet analogy. A toddler wees on your feet, so you teach him thats bad, and punish him a bit (in non physical ways!!!!!). If he does it, knows he has done wrong, but doesnt get told what, whos to say next time rather than sittin gon your foot and peeing, he wont take a shot from a distance? its a bad analogy, but still
You're not a toddler, we have a very specific set of rules which are easy to follow (see how many people manage just fine) and easy to find. You're suggesting we parent every misbehaving member, we don't have the time or the inclination. As for you, I didn't ban you but I think it's pretty safe to say you were banned for a spam related offense, and if you didn't know I'm amazed, most other people at the time probably did.
I got banned about a month ago, but Xeno was nice and sent me a email telling me why i was banned. I learned my lesson and will attempt to resist posting spammy threads.
Ive managed just fine for 3 years up until then! I hella try not to spam, i dont even post in "happy birthday" threads because imo there useless, and PMs should be sent instead (see seperate thread in feedback forum somewhere). I always thought it may have been because of sarcasm in a post or something - humour somebody didnt quite get. But i checked all the recent posts made by me i could find, and none i believed to be any differant to any of my normal dealings around here! I couldnt think of a post/thread that would have been deleted. Unless your suggesting everything I post is spam ? But i accept you have much to do. And not everyone gets an explanation. But 9/10 isnt 10/10 - not everybody gets it! edit: btw, what happened to the sticky threads in GD ?
personally i think that it is down to the admin who banned them.... DONT forget this is a FREE service that we are getting!!! and a mighty fine one at that ...... im not sure how admin personel are chosen but im guessing that theyve earned the right for Admin Status and know what their on about!!!! therefor if, in their eyes, ur misusing or abusing the rules and are BANNED then just accept it and be damn lucky if you receive any explanation at all...... if ur banned its ur problem, not theirs!!! how can anyone complain about a FREE service after they abuse it..... GET REAL!!!
fair point, but after being part of the community for a few years, if i were ever banned i'd appreciate knowing why i got booted out. actually, i'd appreciate an email saying that i was being "kept an eye on", just so i knew that i'd overstepped the mark and needed to tread a little more carefully (i remember a message from a mod a long time ago regarding an avatar for example, and the fact that changing it might be a good idea)
Admins are simply the people who own and operate bit-tech in its entirety. Moderators are invited to be mods by admins such as myself -- MrDT: We, (well i do anyway ) often do send out PMs giving people a little nudge, mainly cos i'm nice like that... before the mods get to them Works usually, too.
In that case BIG IT UP FOR BITECH ADMIN for a wicked forum with coolio admins. but hey peeps remember were all adults here and we all know the line between having a laugh/taking the piss (sorry) and between actually abusing a thread or rule. although that line may be thin at times im confident that the admins govern the rules with a bit of lea-way and sensibiliy. im sure they would give a warning/explanation to a long time member compared to a member whos been on for maybe a few weeks/days...... and come, on we all know why we get a warning, you just dont want to admit it. EDIT:/ okay then i meant "metaphorically" speaking were all adults here..... but yes it is a good point that it is hard to say i wont do it again if they dont know what theyve done. but all the admins ive seen say they do give warnings and reasons but on the other side some peeps are saying they dont receive them...... hmmmmm its a funny world
we arent all adults.. .though i am so have no excuse I got no warning when i got banned, which only makes me think i must have been EXTREMELE harsh in a post i made. As i couldnt find one i was harsh in theres nothing for me to go on. Not that this is a whine btw, i am just commenting here. Ill happily live without knowing what I did, i just can't promise not to do the same thing again! (cause i dont know what it was).
