That pretty much sums it up then, it's amazing though HTC came out of no where and last year had profits of 1 billion? that's damn out right crazy, made allot of people rich in the process :) Blackberry also came out of no where and had crazy profits for awhile now their on the decline.

At least while Samsung and Apple are going toe to toe, we'll have some major products to look forward too with the odd smaller company throwing a few cents in once in awhile.

    In a nutshell, yes.

Probably a lot of the former and a decent amount of the latter too I'm afraid :worried: That's why I always try to have a couple of spares around - should anything happen to it, I can just activate a spare and let iCloud do the rest until I get it connected to iTunes to restore from the previous evenings complete backup. As I've said before, there is very little that I do on my iPhone (hopefully adding a new iPad to the equation early in March too) every day that I couldn't do on a Droid phone with the same storage capacity and spec, but Apple got there first and the number of iOS apps that I've bought to date means that from an economical standpoint, I am stuck quite firmly and perfectly happily with an iPhone.

    Here's an "off the top of my head" list of the Apps that I use every day without fail;

    ToDo
    Dropbox
Mail - 4 accounts and counting
    WhatsApp
    NDrive
Road Trip - I track all my fuel expenses, consumption, economy and mileage with this.
Dashboard - HUD for speed, trip distance, weekly odometer etc
    Google Maps
    Speed Test
    Evernote
    LogMeIn Ignition
    Mocha VNC
    eBay
    PayPal
    BillMinder
    iExpenseIt
Facebook - yes, I get contacted about work via Facebook messages regularly.
TapaTalk - so I can keep in touch with yew guise and all the other forums that support it.
    Shazam
    Mobile Mouse
    Apple Remote
    ProCamera

And the list goes on... My iTL is at well over 600 apps at the moment, and a lot of them were purchases.

I still don't get it. I do so much every day, and most days I never touch a phone, tablet, or laptop. I don't need these apps to do the things I want to do, and when I try them on other people's stuff, they're obtrusive and mostly useless, so what's the point?

Then again, I can talk to my PC and it does what I want. I think it's more the fact that I can simply create my own solutions and I don't need someone else's. saves me money, too.

That is precisely why I have only 4 or 5 actual paid apps on my iPhone. Right now I'm considering an Android phone for my next upgrade, and I have no reservations about changing platforms.

If I had that much invested in the Apple ecosystem, I would be very hesitant to switch.

I've often wondered how much longer we can continue in an age of single-use, platform-dependent licenses for certain software, especially when it's becoming ever more common for people to own a smart phone, a tablet, and full computer - with 2 or more operating systems. I tip my hat to any developer brave enough to let me play a game on my iPhone and Nexus 7.

I understand that it's in Google's, Microsoft's, and Apple's best interest for all of my devices to live in the same ecosystem. I suppose if Rovio offered to grant me a universal license, I'd only have to pay once. Perhaps developers are hoping for a bit of extra money spent on multiple versions of applications.

Oh well, there are always board games. :)

    EDIT:
Don't forget, Kayin, that you are in a very small minority - even among fellow geeks. Apps aren't intended for you, precisely because you are bright enough to do your own programming. I, on the other hand, only know enough to make a basic web page. Sure, I guess I could take the time to learn a programming language and make my own applications. On the other hand, I spend too much of my spare free time on other hobbies. I don't need a laptop or tablet to build furniture, but I do enjoy dropping my phone in a dock to listen to customized playlists while I work. ;)

It all stems back to consoles look at the licences there. They will not let you play the same game on a 360 a ps3 or a pc from the same licence.

Once the console and Pc game market heads in that 1 licence direction then phone providers may follow but i dout they will be the first.

Even on Andriod and Apple store there is some apps that are for phone and tablet. But most companies would rather you pay twice. As long as they can get away with it they will do.

Microsoft does similar things with there App store. Sony does also come to think of it they expect you to buy the same game twice despite owning it for ps3 as a ps1 classic if you want to play it on your phone or psvita( ps vita was changed late last year so you dont need to buy twice)

Phone and tablet store are 2 seperate entities.

Music and Video is not device restricted at least on Apple devices. Ive not downloaded anything like that to my andriod phone so cant comment.

I have this opinion about technology - I live in the Western world, with useful, modern technology available to me. I drive a car that travels over 60 miles per gallon of fuel, I never get lost because of GPS navigation, I have tools and equipment at my disposal every day to help me do my job better that people wouldn't have had 10 years ago and that many people in less well off parts of the world still don't have today and last but not least, I carry in my pocket one of the most advanced, multifunctioning electronic devices to be invented in the last couple of decades; a smartphone. I have all these things available to me, so I use them and they make my life a lot easier every day.

"Obtrusive and mostly useless" to one man is what makes another mans life that much easier. Different strokes for different folks.

Not actually true, about 90% of my paid ipad apps would work on my ipod touch. The main offenders is actually rovio with the angry birds franchise.
