I've been taking a trip down memory lane tonight, listening to those songs you liked at school. Music played a huge role in me growing up (I was in a band with friends for 6 months, it was an awesome experience), so what music reminds you of growing up?

Mine are quite mainstream given the current genres of music I listen to (thrash, power and heavy metal with a dose of classic rock). The main 'anthems' are:

Evanescence - Bring Me To Life
Nickelback - How You Remind Me
Linkin Park - In The End
Boxcar Racer - I Feel So
    Feeder - Buck Rogers
Iron Maiden - Brave New World (whole album)

So - what's yours? I should probably add that I was born in '87, so I left secondary school in 2003.

That just reminded me. I think Minutes To Midnight had to be the album that got me in to the music I like today. Otherwise, I still listen to the most epic tracks of all time:

Best motivational track ever. REMEMBERING SPONGEBOB:

Public Image Ltd. - Happy and The Velvet Underground & Nico.
Played seemingly endlessly in the car while on camping holidays.

As a kid I listened to Dire Straits almost exclusively.

The only other music I really associate with my childhood is film soundtracks, most of which are by John Williams. Let's see:

    Ghostbusters - Ray Parker Junior
Axel F (Bev Hills Cop) - Harold Faltermeyer
    Raiders March - John Williams
    ET theme - John Williams
    Superman theme - John Williams
Star Wars soundtrack - John Williams
Back to the Future - John Williams, Chuck Berry, Huey Lewis

As a child (i.e. before the age of 10) I was subjected to repeated playthroughs of the following two albums every time we went on a car journey:

I was lucky to retain my sanity into adulthood, where I promptly lost it anyway. Don't do drugs :nono:

I spent most of my youth (from ages 7/8 to 16) listening to Tears for Fears, The Police, Evergrey, Pain of Salvation, Dream Theater, Iced Earth, Blind Guardian, Accent, Mroja and Lyapis Trubetskoy.

Most of the Prog Rock & Metal was caused by a neighbour playing it fairly often to the point that I started collecting it myself.
The last three bands are from when I lived in Belarus for a while.

I also loved (or still do) a couple of cartoon themes; Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors, Jonny Quest, The Bots Master, Bucky O'Hare, Mysterious Cities of Gold and Ulysses 31 to name a few.

To top it all off, my childhood soundtrack would have to include lots of video game themes... too many to list. The games of the 80's were full of tunes that were so infectious that you couldn't resist humming them all on a daily basis.

If we're going into game tunes that were definitive, I can't leave this out:

Endless hours playing this with my best mate, endless. Joyous times.

This. As I was born in 1980 I can relate to all of the above with the addition of the Never Ending Story Soundtrack. Also I can remember my mom listening to Fleetwood Mac while doing the housework lol

How ridiculously homogenous we are! As I was submitting that post I thought "Shall I add
Neverending Story?" I didn't because I didn't want to ruin the thread so early by just dumping it full of references, cos if I'd have gone for one more I'd probably go for 50 more...

And yes, I was born 1980 too.
