Been to London a few times, done the whole tourist thing. Nice enough for a day trip wouldn't want to stay there for more than a day. Far too much polution and people.
I've never been to my own capital city, but I have visited Dublin (twice), London and Caracas. I thoroughly enjoyed both Dublin and London. Coming from Texas, it was quite a treat to see a lot of the really old history that until that point had only been available through dusty textbooks. I was terribly impressed by Caracas, but since I was there on business I didn't get a proper look around. Also, the locals didn't seem to appreciate my buthered attempts at Spanish. -monkey
Only ever been to London once...and imo that's one time too many! Horrible place, but then I'm a town dweller - don't think I could ever live in a city. Don't get me wrong, cities are great for nights out/socialising etc, but there's nothing like opening your curtains in the morning and seeing miles of 'green'. Saying that, Cardiff is pretty nice - used to go there loads during my brief stint at uni.
dublins a great city tad expensive but goo anyhow especially grafton street and the bars etc around there and temple bar
Canberra, been there. Since Australia is part of the Commonwealth, I guess London counts too...Been there 3 times Since I live in US, had to go to DC for INS junk.
Frankfurt is nice city if ya like buildings and stuff european unions tallest tower Commerzbank Tower is there. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Frankfurt.Commerzbanktower.wmt.jpg Been to honolulu/Wikikki didnt see much honolulu city itself casue its just like any other city(and u dont go to hawaii to look at cities) but wikikki was ok but alot i mean alot of homeless
Berlin's good. The Zoo just seems to be plonked right in the middle There's certainly plenty to do and see. I went there a year after some of the wall came down - Checkpoint Charlie was still there, although derelict. I've heard it's changed a lot since then though. I've only been to London a handful of times, but enjoyed it. I'd love to go to the Museum again. Went to Edinburgh whilst on holiday and it seemed good - went up to the Castle which was quite something!
Lived in London for 14 years, very rarely went to do the tourist thang - generally only when we had people staying. Been to Edinburgh (nice), Dublin (nice, apart from the stag weekenders), Paris (French. Need I say more?), Budapest (just after the fall of communism, just as it was starting to become westernised) and Canberra. Canberra is probably the weirdest city I've been to. Because it didn't exist until Australia became a federation of states, it's really a made-up place, a bit like Milton Keynes. The only people that work in the city tend to work on Government business, so in the evening, the city centre is deserted - it becomes a bit of a ghost town. Strange, and quite disconcerting.
Even though I've barely left the US and haven't seen all that much of the country, I went to Washington D.C. back when I was 9 or 10. Went to the Smithsonian, toured the White House, was terribly jet-lagged the whole time (stupid Ben Franklin for making time zones).
Nah, she's actually a heavy fan of industrial (Skinny Puppy, specifically) and breakbeat, and will massacre anyone who listens to any form of MTV-derived rock. She breakdances, too. She performed for Skinny Puppy's Pro-Test video: watch video. On the plus side, she's older than me: definitely my flavour
You're in the minority who say that Edinburgh is sweet, and during august its full of everything you want (the city turns into a festival for those who don't know ). Plenty of history too if you like that sprt of thing, and theroyal museum is great whoever you are. I have been to london a few times but never to do the touristy thing - though I would like to. Wouldn't want to live there though!
Sorry, I was being trite. What I should've gone on to say is that Endinburgh doesn't have much to offer me, hence I don't often visit. I really can't think of anything there I'd like to see, whereas there are a lot of other more interesting places to visit (go to Stirling or Doune if you want to see a castle). All my opinion of course, but considering Glasgow's bigger that the capitol, by herb's reasoning it should be a better place to go. If you want to span out to Britain, I was discussing it last night and came to the conclusion the only thing in London I'd like to see is the British Museum. But I do really want to see that
I live just outside of DC. Don't go there much anymore, but used to do daytrips with my kids to do the museums and art galleries such. They don't have much interest anymore. The public spaces are nicely done, but there are plenty of areas tourist shouldn't venture.
Been to DC two times, it's a nice place to go visit and sight-see for a few days, but nothing too exciting or worth coming back again and again for.
I made no such reasoning I enquired to how many people have visited their country's capital and if not why, there is no where here I mentioned 'bigger the city the better'.
The two words are mutually exclusive, but I dont like "music fans" who consider themselves elitist because they're more pure or some ****. Everyone has their own exposure limits and opinions.
I've been to Oslo once as far as i can remember. Was just traveling trough (spent the night there). Incredibly dirty and ugly city. I live in Trondheim at the moment, witch was the capitol in Norway from 1030 to 1217. (Back then it was called Nidaros, BTW (Far nicer name IMO)) I guess i was born 1000 years to late...
