Do you have a preference for high or low DPI settings for games ? Is it for precision or sensitivity ? I don't really understand. Ever since I got the Razer Diamondback a few years back, I could not get the right mouse settings. EVER It seems like anything above 800dpi for me is wayyy too high and absolutely impossible to use for ut2k4 I currently use the Ikari SteelMouse Optical and it is awesome. This is the best mouse I have had on several levels and it's amazing for audiosurf. The only problem I have is that if I set the mouse at its max DPI settings (somethig which I would usually never do but I can't make a damn 180° in UT when I am at 800dpi, it just skips) then it is way too fast. Now don't worry, I know it's normal to be fast, but with the windows sensitivity at 3 and ut2k4's sensitivity at 0.25 (minimum allowed, most players user 1.5 to 3) it's still unusable However if I set the windows sensitivity at 2 then its too slow. There is such a huge gap that I don't get it. I just don't get how anyone can use high dpi settings and still have normal sensitivity settings and resolution
With my Logitech G5, I can dynamically select from 5 dpi settings. Sniping = low dpi (800), Assault = [1000, 1600] dpi.
yeah have the logitec g5.. it maxes at 2000dpi but I keep it @ 1000.. seems to be a good without going overboard- mainly for photoshop when your masking you need a high dpi to keep accurate I've gamed on low dpi and to tell you the truth it doesn't matter, high, low, as long as your used to it.. low dpi actually prefer too- something about it, just seems you can flick shot (turn and shoot) more accurately.. maybe it's just me- but in single player games I just leave it @1000- have profiles set @ 800 online.. but even 400 is good 2000 is just unnoticeable from 1000- least I can't see the difference
5,600 DPI here, I work on 3x 22" monitors @ 1920x1080 so it helps a lot to get from screen to screen, works great for gaming too, less hand movements.
200DPI here on a G5. at 1680x1050 I only need to move the mouse about ~1.5cm to get across the screen. I've always worked like this, so with a really heavy mouse I'm both precise and very very fast!
I went from a crappy dell mouse to a habu. At first i could only use it on a low dpi because i was use to having to move the mouse a lot. Now i'm used to using it on 2000dpi, i've just gotten used to moving the mouse a tiny little bit to look around a room, etc.
I got mine set to 4000DPI with my Lachesis, but I turn down to Master sensitivity to compensate otherwise way to twitchy.
the setting I use for gaming is the same for desktop use...low to get across my screen (1440x900) is about 1.25"
i just keep mine at 2000, anything lower and it just feels sluggish and like it takes an eternity from one side of the screen to the other. if i could go any higher i probably would
My deathadder is at 1800dpi, I think. That equates to about an inch of hand movement to get across my 1680*1050 screen. In modern games it's great, even outside an FPS. Sometimes I have issues when I'm doing intricate stuff in windows (like 3d modelling) or playing old games like starcraft where the low res makes the mouse effectively even more sensitive.
good old standard 800dpi with logitech G5. one notch higher mouse speed in Windows config. but in Hackintosh, have to set it to full speed because Mac somehow doesn't like 800dpi. does setting higher DPI decreases hand strain? the problem with high DPI is that it's not very accurate, and i find it requires even more force concentrated on the wrist to make it work properly.
I have my Deathadder set to 1800 DPI, 1000 Hz, but I change the sensitivity using the on-the-fly sensitivity switcher in games (depending on the game and whether I'm sniping or R&G'ing) as 1600 DPI is generally a bit too much. The Razer driver software is brilliant for this. On my old MX518, which only offered on the fly DPI switching (not sensitivity), I found 800-1200 DPI to be the sweet spot, again depending on the game. Personally, I think these ultra high DPI settings are just a gimmick, and manufacturers think that by having a higher number on the box they will sell more.
Ok, call me crazy, but I snipe in TF2 with the mouse set to 1,800 DPI and the the in-game sensitivity at 6... Otherwise, I switch to about 2,000 DPI in windows. The problem is, every other mouse is a pain to use... and cranking up the sensitivity in windows is horrible... So easy to get hooked on high DPI settings, it's an addiction
