I had a RCA (forgot name) but it was a big hefty one, 20gbs (they only make them in 40gbs now, as far as I know), well long story short it got stolen... So then when I was preparing for a trip to europe, and the netherlands I really needed another for the plane ride. So I got a Rio Carbon 5gb... I wish I would have spent the money on a psp, the carbon is nothing but problems for me, and but if you can get past the random lock ups the battery life is amazing.

I always wanted to stear clear of ipods but I reluctantly bought a shuffle after being fairly impressed with the sound quality of my mates one. It thought it might be perfect for my 25 minute bike ride to work. I was right :D

I'm really impressed with it so far. Even itunes has been worth the effort of re-ID3-tagging about 1000 mp3s

The sound quality of the shuffle is pretty good. Considering it's so tiny, it drives my Grado SR-80s well. Having a flappy little bit of white plastic on the end of the 2m beefy cord of these seems a bit funny. The supplied headhphones work really well with the shuffle. They sound a lot better than my Sennheiser MX-550 phones, which was a surprise.

As long as you don't need a screen or want to carry GB's of music about then I would seriously recommend having a look at one of these. I have tried to avoid apples mp3 players up until now but this one was the right one for the job. As a product, it has a well defined purpose which it amply serves. Well recommended :)

Hmm, I should look into that ;) Rio Karma here too, it just has the best featureset (including gapless playback which no other player fully supports, along with a shedload of others) and excellent sound quality. Only got this recently as Rio have now upped their European warranty on these to a year from the rather paltry 90 days it used to be.

And this made me laugh

hmm why dosen't someone make a bluetooth brick (hdd storage) that sits in ur rucksack or coat pocket or something? That would be nifty.

But now i can buy a 2.3microdrive for £50 i might make an mp3 player if i can perswade the uni to get me one of those nice atmel ARM9 dev boards.

Hamish, kudos for the gaffa tape.

Me too, got it for about £60 or less (with 5 years cover) when I worked at Pc World :D (hate that place)

Aint used it for a while now, I think its knakered, gonna wack the hard drive in me pc to do some diagnosis.

Ive been looking for a new one but really cant decide, even after reading this thread :sigh:

Thinking iRiver but dont know which and not many places seem to sell them.
What I want from an mp3 player:

-20 gig or more (got 130gb of music some how)
-Preferably drag n' drop to player (cba with having to use software)
-reasonable size screen, don't need to be colour.
    -fairly easy to use/good UI.
    -good sound quality
    -radio would be handy
-reasonable volume ouput level (might be using my Sennheiser HD580's with it)
-and not too pricey, closer to £150 the better.

Ive seen the H10 20gig for £178 (was out of stock), the 20gig Ipod for £170, I dont really want to get an I-pod as I just generally dont like the whole Apple thing or being forced to use itunes...

Unless theres something better (with a good price)... Which iRiver and where can I get it in the UK, preferably the place with the best price.

Ohhh, mines changed too. Was using some cheap 128mb player.
Now using a Rio Karma (20gb(few months in)) bloody ace! £130new.

Only thing that'll replace it, is a New Rio/iRiver/Nano with at least 10-15gb. :)

Change mine from a mini to a nano. It's good, but I have just found out that it's not as durable as the mini. The screen cracked yesterday. I didn't even drop it or anything. Must have just been something wrong with the one I had (hopefully, seeing as I'm getting it replaced today...)
