Just do it, I run a single screen and am very happy with it, if I can find a camera I'll post it later.

I find it hard to work on one screens especially when running software that has lots of plugins and extras with tons of doodads and nick nacks

Playing with FL i like to have the mixer piano roll sequencer and any plugins up and not overlapping which means i need two i find it easier to split things up that way

Much more productive i think i would find 3 a bit overwhelming i think

Jipa, you need to move the case off the table to get more space for beer cans :p

DP1: I'm having the problem that I'm bit scared to move from 2x 1680x1050 1x 1280x1024 (Three screen setup) to 2x 1920x1200 (Two screen setup). I hope that bigger sreens will make it easier to go back to two.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with single screen setups... I don't have one, but I used to, and if you're used to it and it does everything you need it to, then don't be ashamed of it.

This is not called the "Your room and computer AKA How many monitors do you have?!" thread.

I'm not posting mine right now. It's a tip at the moment and you can't see any of the surface of my desk for papers, pens, miscellaneous PCBs, half dissected iPhones and tools :hehe: Plus, I'm running a "stop gap" 22" Samsung in place of one of my Viewsonic 28's at the moment, and am giving it all a pretty major upgrade in a months time, so I'll post a pic of it once that has happened :thumb:

No pictures but I'm just about to start work on a dedicated home office room and was wondering if anyone had any particular desk and or chair recommendations? I was looking at getting a Ikea Jerker but they seem to be discontinued now.

With chairs and desks there are a myriad of options to choose from. I assume since you've mentioned chairs you're interested in a sit-down set-up over a standing desk, but you might want to do some research into the latter as it can be preferable for office work. If you add in gaming as part of your room's functions, I think a sit-down set-up is always going to be better though.

In the chair realm, the two major players in the ergonomic space are Steelcase and Herman Miller. They manufacture the Leap and Aeron chair respectively, which are both fantastic for long stretches of sitting. One issue is that they are very expensive (up to and over a thousand pounds depending on customisation) but if you view them as a multi-year investment it can be a fantastic purchase. Highly recommend trying them out before buying as you may prefer one's quirks and features over the other. In cheaper categories, Postura has some decent offerings (as does Ikea) but build quality may be an issue. TC office might also be worth looking into - they have some very nice looking models like this (http://www.tcoffice.co.uk/storm/) and I own one of their Postura models, which has served me well.

When it comes to desks, one thing I always go for is something very, very wide. If you're going to have a computer and peripherals on the desk, in addition to space for writing then I think the minimum length is going to have to be 1.6 to 2 meters long. I personally lean toward at least 2 meters but that might be because I also have speakers on my desk. The more the better in my opinion. I'd look for something solidly built and preferably made out of a dense wood, but pricing may be a prohibitive factor here. What sort of budget are you looking at?

Got a nice pressie this year - Ambx Gaming Lights. Nice bit of kit.

They work very well and although they are quite expensive, they really do add to the setup.
I see a future to surround lighting as part of the home cinema experience.

Excellent advice. The room is 1.7m wide by 2m long. The max desk size that will realistically fit is around 1.6 (accounting for wall sockets, radiator etc). It only needs to be able to take a laptop, printer and monitor although room for future expansion is always good. :D

On the short list so far is a "Mexico Desk"

    http://www.homeofficeworld.co.uk/p/Mexico_Rectangular_Desk.htm

    Or a Ikea Fredik

    http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/40111124/

It's definitely going to be a sit down desk, and budget wise I'm really wanting to go over £1k for the whole room.

Yes it's basically a glorified wardrobe. But it will do as a computer room. How anyone ever managed to fit a bed in there is beyond me.

It's Mionix Naos 5000, reviewed HERE. I think I'm now reviewed 15 mice and this is the one I've ended up using ;)

Close, but no banana. Also the Qpad 5K looks very much like this one.

Damn, thought I'd have recognised it given how much I've agonised over mouse choice over the last couple of years...

To be fair I'm pretty sure Mionix isn't the best known brand out there, and those mice DO look very much alike.

Thanks, I currently use an ikari optical and I have been looking for a new mouse, is it worth replacing it with the Mionix?

The Fredrik is quite popular with a lot of computer users but I think the extra 20cm on the 1600mm Mexico model gives it the edge over the Ikea offering (which is 1390mm in width). If you go for something like the TC office Storm chair that would be around 400 pounds, so you'd end up around 620 or so total for the desk and chair (including a headrest).
