Jeez man, you're working more on this than i am right now. I think i like the second to last design the best. The thing is, on Sangaku, the fan hole actually served a purpose since there is a fan there but on Yuugou, the pump is right there which doesn;t really need a fan. Being decorative is cool but i gotta figure out how to do it. Ideally i'd CNC it so i could get the curves but alas, i'm not g69t so we'll see. Thanks again man, you're helping a lot.
I still think its too complicated for the front and it'd be rediculously hard to impliment perfectly. I like the second design on this page the best so far.
in that case i would go with the 2nd pic in ur previous post (bright fan grill to give it some contrast) but the whole middle section looks a bit... empty maybe add some bright wooden pieces on the front? something that would blend with the rest of the case
I've read through both of your project logs and these cases are top notch. Amazing work (I love the joinery). For the front panel, have you considered a friction fit insert? From the photos it looks like you have enough of an inset to use a piece of 1/8" plexi/mdf/ply as a base. This would give you more freedom to work with a design that doesn't require a tricky veneer job. Also gives you the option of changing the look with different inserts. Looking forward to seeing the finished product...
I think it needs to be different from the sides and top, and alot cleaner looking. Therefore no curved wooden bits. Just a couple of questions, is it just a slot loading optical drive going in there? How about power, reset buttons and status led's etc? Also can you tell/show us what the internal layout is derectly behind the front? I think you said that a pump was going in the lower front, which means no way of placing the optical drive at the bottom. It would help to know where things can be placed, and in turn help me come up with a few photoshopped designs for you to use as inspiration (hopefully). N.b. no guarantees on me actually doing any designs sinse i've had the basic shell of my custom wooden case built for about a month and haven't gotten around to marking it up for routering etc. Also got a couple of things to do, install new version of Vista etc.
There is my version. i was going to do the dark on the back but somehow i mixed them up i can do it the way as i was going to do it but tell me if u like the desing. ps: the gray thing is aluminium
Looks pretty good LoveJoy. What is the purpose of the aluminum square. Is it just an accent piece? Also, where did you intend to put the CD drive with that design. GreenSabbath seems to be wanting something a bit more simplistic. I've been trying to come up with something a bit more simple yet still draw attention to the front. I would like to see him stay away from the plexiglass or aluminum front.
You'll get your wish Navtrtl, no plexi or aluminum here (at least not showing anyway). That actually does look pretty sweet Lovejoy but as Navtrtl said, a bit too complex still. I've come up with one more design. The oval didn't match the case before since all of the curves on the case end in a point. Also it was a bit too small. What do u think of this? (pending materials of course) I was thinking a paper background maybe and possible more koa. Or i could use a different darker paper with some maple as the lines. the thing i really like about paper is it adds a bit of texture too.
I think a paper background would look the best. Some of the front designs seems to have too much koa in them and could detract from the elegance of the side. I'm in favor of something similar to Navtrtl's in post 227.
Thanks guys. Yes, the only thing on the front is the dvd drive most likely. I'm not sure about the buttons yet. I was going to do touch sensors and have them hidden on the top panel (and i mean you won't be able to see them at all) but that might be a pain so we'll see. This design isn't final yet but its getting there. Also i'm still getting my stuff organized so I won't have a real update for a bit longer, but its coming. Thanks again everyone for your input and if you have a front design that you think is better, feel free to share it.
my second version hope u like it that powerbutton was just something that migth work it u dont use thoes toutch sensors the buttons and stealth drives work like this its finnish site sooo... he opens the cd-drive form windows and... the powerbutton... i saw it ones in some website but cant remember where ill try to find it found it that how u can do the pushable cd-drive and button
hello i just register so i could say this this is one good looking case ,lol. congrats and keep up the good work. looking foword for new updates (pardon my english).
Thanks a lot man and welcome to the forum. Hey everyone else, in case you were wondering, this case isn't dead, I just went back to college. I finally am ready to start the aluminum insides. I already have the tap, drill bits, fluid, and other random stuff, i just need the screws. Also i bought the pump/res. I'll have pics of all of this in my next update. In other news, I'll be going to the Nvidia release party thing in San Fran so Sangaku is getting a carrying crate made for it along with upgrades to things that aren't quite perfect. I'll have pictures of that too and hopefully i'll come back with something. I just wanted to let everyone know that I appreciate all of the help you have given me and that it has not gone in vain because I am back (my first major architecture project is done) and I'm ready to go.
