    hmmmm.......icecube your a strange being.

One minute ur talkin about gettin a Zalman Flower Cooler CNPS 6000+ and next your thinking about buying "a decent delta 80mm fan."

Delta's are VERY loud...much more so than the Zalman fan...

hmmm....u either go for quiet and good performance (watercooling), quiet and average cooling (zalman/ alpha and a papst) or loud with good cooling (alpha with a delta.)

Get your priorities sorted, i would have bought an alpha with a papst now, but i got the Zalman a while ago, and wanna try it out.

and its quiet because its so large and so can spin slowly....s dont get worried when your bios is telling you your fan isnt working....it just cant detect it because it spins so slow

bantai the zalman fan is very weak compared to to an 80mm delta fan.

an alpha pal 8045 with an 80mm delta fan will do a much better job of cooling the cpu. The zalam coolers are designed to be quiet.

well sorry to burst your all-knowing bubble lazydemon  but Zalmans are not just for a lack of noise....I've never seen my CPU temp go over 45

id hate to brake up an arguement but the alpha pal 8045 with the right fan adn the right case cooling is properly about as close as you can get to watercooling...

Not to mention the prescence of the Zalman on the dangerous list....

The Zalman is not higher performance than the Alpha. I have the Alpha, and my CPU temp is room temp +20C at full load, with a Tbird at 1633, with a total dissipation at that speed/voltage of around 92W. That equates to a C/W of around 0.22-0.23, which is SERIOUSLY impressive for air cooling.

And no, I don't have any Delta fans. I use a Mechatronics fan, which is very reasonable in noise output and strong in airflow.

ok guys i take your point that the alpha is cooler....but the Zalman does the job.....plus its quieter....i dont see the point in trying to freeze the core if you can get one quieter that work perfectly well....possibly cheaper...i'm not sure

ok, i just built the system using the Akasa, and i get 50c on a cold boot in BIOS :| so i shut it down.

i really want to get the Alpha but im not taking the whole system apart to attach it with bolts :|

so it looks like im going to have to get a clip on cooler. i want the best one! whats this, is it the zalman ?

    thanks,

this does not makes sense on its own...it depends on what you want...do you want a quiet one, or do you not mind the noise? Do you want a cool, loud one?

you quoted a bad part of my post

im not "too" bothered about noise, cooling is my priority.

but that dosnt mean i want a jet plane cooler either.

    thanks,

just put some effort in and get the alpha. You only have to take the mobo out and that is really easy to do on the chieftec cases as you can take the harddrive cages out. It will only take you 30mins max.

The zalman cooler is on the dangeous heatsink list for a reason. It is dangerous. It can snapp off the lugs on the plastic chipset and distort the shape of it causing it to loose contact with the chip.

    Just get the alpha. :D

hmmm......in which case, you could go with either Zalman or alpha....but alphas do freeze the balls off it!!! If you just wnat the heatsink though....you might not get a zalman....as far as i'm aware you cant get it without the massive fan that comes w/.....but i'm probably wrong:lol:

BEWARE: if you've got an alpha inside your case, you're gunna know about it from outside

no you don't need a shim as it bolts on to the motherboard and shims are ment to protect the core from being crushed by the heatsink but that isn't a problem with the alpha.

And bantai you can put a silent fan on the heatsink so you won't know about it.

but if you want to take advantage of this sucking cr@p that the alpha does....a silent fan wont do whats required
