    I know...
I did design a whole new print out that says:
    Code:
    HIGH FREQUENCY OPERATION
    RADIATION HAZARD 368µR/HR
    1305-01-092-0429-A976 834C-MAX
    LOT HJA90E1G5-009 M793 TP-T

I may add it later, but for now I only have two week till the LAN

Anyone interested in more eye candy?

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have all the LEDs installed in the mouse.
A total of five: Logo, 2x Sides, Fire Wheel, and Optic sensor.
This mouse is VERY bright as each LED is 8000MCD

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    A close-up of the fire-wheel.
I choose to use a smooth wheel, as I don't mind a little less grip.
I built it using Japala's guide here:
    http://metku.net/index.html?sect=view&n=1&path=mods/firewheel/index_eng

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now a test run of the LEDs
It is hard to discribe how pure and bright the green lit is.
My camera picks them up as blue, so all these images are color adjusted as close as I can.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here is the mouse lit up during the day.
It's still so bright enough to burn your eyes, (And saturate the camera)

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    And a night shot.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The logo was changed to green to match all the rest of the mouse.

    Another small update:

I got the adapter for the CD-Rom in-today.

While testing it out (it works great) I found that the Eject wire I installed earlier started to bunch up, and was bound to break soon.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Then I realized something:
Why the heck do I need to run the eject wire connected all the time?
After all the only time I need to eject the drive is when it's closed.

The solution: A simple spring and some copper tape.
The spring make contact with the copper tape when the drive is closed.
Shorting this to ground will make the drive eject., simple

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I then cut a hole in the lid for the trace to run through.
I installed the Slim-CD to Normal-IDE adapter, and then hot-glued in a new header that has the eject fuction.
This can now be wired directy to the front of the case.

Genious! Though you might need a welder's mask just to look at that darn mouse.

Holy crap, that mouse looks cool!

I don't quite understand the drive problem though. What exactly was the trouble?

The mouse looks pretty good and glowy.

But that implementation of an eject button on the slimline drive is genius.

You have to make a guide for that ... I wanna do that to some of my drives.

-> love the green glowing mouse zap :thumb:
-> it'd be cool if the led would change intensities so it looks like it's radioactive. just an idea

When its all been put together, fill the whole thing with cavity wall insualtion. Then you could chuck it about :D
It might get a bit hot inside mind you.

What most impresses me about your work Zap is the crazy attention to tiny details that you put in. Those fan grills are amazing. Like you said... you cant tell that they havent always been there. Thats proper style

If you look back in the posts I ran a blue wire along the ribbon cable inside the drive.
This wire though kept getting de-tached from the ribbon cable and would bunch up.
So I just decided on a spring loaded connection.

    Secret that is the idea.
All the lights in the system, and those in the keyboard are going to be wired up to a Throbbing circuit (like Macroman made for MacroBlack)

The USB Cable has five wires, two of them are ground (GND and Shield)

I plan on taking the GND wire and converting that over to +5volts, just for the LEDs.

Then I can connect that into the throbbing circuit to make it pulse in sync with the rest of the system.

I won't have time to get this done for the next LAN, but I will have it done for August.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Tonight: More LED glowing goodness.
I have the holes for the Slot-LEDs so tonight I will be installing them.

Hey Zap, I have a book that shows all the signs that go on semi-trucks when they carry hazardous material and I think what the signs mean. If you want them I could scan them for you? Oh yeah GOOD JOB on the mod!

That is ok, NissanFrontier, Thanks anyways.

For now the signs will stay the way they are.
I did find a few web pages for hazardous material labeling, and that is what I based my sticker off of.

I bought it from www.allelectronics.com, it was a surplus order, and I can't find it again.

But I know that Digi-key has it.
It was for PCB Trace repair.

Ok, time for a HUGE update

In order to light the slots on the front of the case I had to drill a hole for a LED.
I drilled a hole into each slot, and another for wire to pass into the PC.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Then each LED was carefully hot-glued in place, and aimed properly while the glue was still hot.

The LEDs will run off of +12volts in two sets of two.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    [IMG] [IMG]

I then installed a piece of grill work to cover up the electronics.
This also give a nice bonus side light effect

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just how bright are these LEDs?
8000 MCD, that is more than twice as bright as the LED in your optical mouse.
With 16 LEDs on the outside, that is a total of 128,000 MCD.
Enought to light up the entire area around the PC.

Of course my camera can't pick up the pure green color of the LEDs so all the images had to be color adjusted to as close as I could get it.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here is a shot with the slots lit-up and the front panel in operation.
It sure as heck doesn't look like a PC

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now for the eye candy shots:
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    -The Front

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    -The Back

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    [IMG] [IMG]

    -The Left and Right sides.
Here you can see the extra glow from the LEDs
Also the Fan grills at the bottom will also be lit.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Two angle shots for you.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In order create a glow effect beneath the PC I added some heavy duty rubber feet that I had.
(They also happen to match the case perfectly)

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The effect: (Refered to as UFO Glow Effect)
This image also shows the most true color of the LEDs.

i've kept quiet durring this log, but now i have to speak out.
That thing ****ing rocks. Like I said on IRC: I like the change away from blue. I like blue and everything, it's just way overused. VERY nice project, like always.
