Tech TV has now finaly put a video clip up of the contest.

First off, no comments about how geeky I look and sound.
As they would all be true :p

Except the laugh at the start, that was mostly yoshi, and Leo was reading off the slow teleprompter.

I was put on without any rehersal at all, but I don't think I did too bad.

It was very fast moving, (Live show)
I didn't even get a warning let alone a rehersal!
It's in San Francisco, so the set was actualy not very big.
(But they use the space well)

I got to meet Leo, Pat, Yoshi, the producer, and quite a few others. But not everyone. (Again it was very busy)

They had an intern helping us (me and my wife) out, and getting us water and stuff. The hotel was nice, and TechTV paid for the cab to the set, back to downtown, and back to the airport.

I've got a question for ya Zap, that "ghetto lamp" you have connected, it looks to run off 120VAC....is this true?

Just saying because I think I saw the same thing at radioshack and it runs off AC, and you are using a DC power supply.

Does it run off AC or DC?

It is soldered directly to the 120AC.
And ya, it is from RadioShack.
So if the PC is plugged in the neon is also on.

You can see it in the bottom right of this image.
(Two black 120volt wires run from the power jack to the neon indicator)

And what is that ginormungo ghetto lamp doing, just turning on when you plug it in? You said something about it flickering....what would induce it to flicker?

Sorry about all these questions, my curiousity about electronics is growing rapidly and soon I hope to pull off several electronic related mods on my Lian-Li PC-75. Thanks for the inspiration...!

I meant it had a built-in flicker as it's old school neon.
(Brand new, yet still flickers like old neon)

So it flickers all on it's own.

Thats not going to introduce noise to the power supply is it?
Or did you put a surge protector in the power supply?

    Yep, RadioShack

But I bought it years ago for a car alarm project I never built.
I think it may have been on clearance even then.

You should still be able to find it on places such as www.digikey.com or mabye some home/auto security sites.

    UPDATE:

Hey folks my website has been so swamped I couldn't even post any new images, but here is some new stuff now.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First off here is the only image I had time to take of the TechTV set. It's fairly small, but they use the space very well.
It was a lot of fun to see everyone running around getting things together for the show.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

They made this trophy using their on-set laser cutter.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I of course can't leave any etched plexi un-modified
So I cut into the base (Filled with plaster for weight)
I then installed two 13,000 MCD LEDs, resistors, plug and switch.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The perfect mirrored edges of the plexi. (Pre-made) refract the light from the two leds and send beams of light all around the trophy. This makes it look very sharp in real life.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ironicly TechTV put me up in a Hotel just a block from where AMD had put me a few days earlier.
