Does anyone using Zen Internet for broadband, have the above router? If so, what do you think of it, how well does it work? EDIT: the router is inclusive with the contract, I don’t know how long that has been the case.
That Fritzbox has a built-in DSL modem i.e. VDSL or ADSL fiber to the cabinet upo 76Mbps services. Is that the service you have with Zen? Or do you have FTTP i.e the upto 1Gbps stuff? If the latter, this is not compatible. Also apologies if you know this stuff, just wanted to check first. I've never actually used a Fritzbox but they always have a good rep. The built-in DECT base-station is a cool feature too.
I’m on Plusnet at the moment and, looking to move when my contract expires. Zen have their fixed-for-the-contract pricing and good CS, so I was just wondering about the router, it does seem to be a big step-up from the usual inclusive router shite, like Plusnet’s. We’re on FTTC/VDSL 2 @ 31Mbps downstream, on a good day. I did try a Tp Link router last year but, whilst it was fine for a few months, it then started to lose interest before giving up altogether. Another reason for moving, is Plusnet’s continuing failure to support ipv6, despite BT supporting it for years.
I have Zen FTTP and the equivalent router. It has a ton of features (most I don't use or understand) and seems to be very stable. Wifi perfomance seems reasonable as I have solid brick walls (and I mean solid!) but I was able to grab a second router (from someone on the forum) and they seemlessly form a mesh. The router supports IP telephone services and can act as media server which are nice bonuses. In summary - it's a lot better than the default rubbish of Virgin, Sky etc.
It's a good router, easy to understand and use. It updates automatically and in the time I've been using it has never had a problem with that. I assume this is now a common feature but I like being able to assign an IP address to each device and this makes it very easy. I've actually got 2. When my connection speed dropped substantially last August they sent me another one to confirm it wasn't the router causing the problem (actually the Openreach cabinet was waterlogged). I asked them if I could buy it as a spare in case of future problems but they never charged me for it.
