    BTX has landed:

LONG HERALDED Balanced Technology Extended (BTX) Intel motherboards have started to go for sale in Japan.

Akiba PC Hotline has pictures and some text about the Intel own board, the snappily named D915GMH for the Pentium 4, which already appears to be on sale in Japan.

As one of the pictures of the Intel box makes clear, the board needs BTX compatible components for "proper" system integration including a BTX chassis and a BTX thermal module.

The INQUIRER reported some customer resistance to BTX technology from the Computex show earlier this year in Taiwan.

But roadmaps we've seen shows that the ATX design has not yet been consigned to any kind of scrapheap, and indeed Intel will continue to produce own board ATX designs for a year or two yet.

That's all the Inquirer has, but here, have a link, as they do have pics and the Jap press release.

still not quite used to looking at BTX boards yet - it messes with my head to see everything the 'wrong' way round!!

The connector placement of this board looks really messy - good luck with cable management on this mobo :naughty:

Absolutely. All the connectors appear to be right in the middle of the main airflow path that was supposed to be the rationale for BTX.

And even though the heatsink mountings are still parallel to the board, the screwy 45 degree rotated socket orientation is bound to create problems with heatsink compatibility. And the capacitors have to actually sit under the heatsink arrangement?

how in the hell does THAT mess of a MOBO improve cooling by streamlining the airflow? :eyebrow:
you best off cooling it flat on.....rather than across it.....

    although, http://www.intel.com/pressroom/kits/p4/btx/
id be willing to give it a chance....it still looks wrong though

one thing they didn't mention - are the "full" BTX cases gonna take those weird L-shaped PSUs too? i would hate to have to change my sexy new tagan beast, which is all but BTX compatible :(

AMD most likey wont follow it for quite a while, at least untill they figure out that heat will be an issue and Inel has a good thing going. and i dont believe full BTX cases will use an "L" shaped PSU

    Exactly.
I have WAY too much $$ invested in ATX anyways.
I'll bet AMD won't even consider moving to BTX until their 939's hit Intel's clock speeds, my guess ~6000+ PR. God that sounds tasty :thumb:
