Hooray for Hollywood? Not if means the death of Blu-ray, the almost universally acknowledged best format of the upcoming next gen format DVDs. This from the Inq:

THE FUTURE format wars for high definition DVD ratcheted up a notch today as Toshiba claimed endorsement for its camp's standard by a clutch of Hollywood film giants.

It said in a statement that Paramount, Universal, New Line Cinema and Warner Bros had endorsed its HD DVD disk format.

That could put the nail in the coffin for Sony's alternative format, supported by Matsushita and other manufacturers.

It may also make it easier for Samsung, which has had a foot in both camps, to decide which way it's going to jump.

More if you follow the L'inquage

Of course, there is the possibility that Hollywood could be split on this, as Sony Pictures would more than likely endorse Blue-Ray, seeing as it's parent company invented the format. Then what happens? Blockbuster A is in HD-DVD, and Blockbuster B is on Blu-Ray?
