again with the detailing of your work - love that!!!
    absolutely fabulous work

    - but, in my humble oppinion, the lock and switch just does not look well suited for the front.
i'm not really sure what the alternatives would look like, but...

Lots of lovely period features coming together with a colour scheme of the era.

And you get a rig that I could look at all day long.

    Great stuff!

    Thanks!

Actually a lot of talented people took part in this project, including real auto mechanic. Thanks to him, you will see something special at the end. :)

    Thanks

    :hip:

Welcome :) The switch has 2 positions. In the first one the button works as a power button. In the second one the button does not work. The presence of the key is an important element of visual style and also a good protection from little children who want to press everything :)

    okay :)

Perhaps you are right about the lock and the switch, but they're already done.

Lots of talented people played their roles in this project

    Thanks you

    Thanks :)

    Thanks Bill :)

    :)

Now continue the assembly of the front panel
The eyehole for disc indicator and 2 plugs. Steel, turning

Optical drive indicator will be visible through the piece of acrylic glass
    [IMG]

The parts are chrome-plated and cut to the desired length
    [IMG]

Tray eject button. Panel - laser cutting, 0.5 mm steel. Button was turned on a lathe
    [IMG]

Assembled using the threaded pin and soldering
    [IMG]

    The surface is cleaned
    [IMG]

All the parts are chrome-plated and prepared for installation in the optical drive bay
    [IMG]

Blind holes with M2 thread for attaching the button
    [IMG]

The animated show of button operation
    [IMG]

Two left caps once were planned to be used as buttons, but during the work the need for them has disappeared
    [IMG]

    Rear view
    [IMG]

The plates are held by the cap nuts screwed on the studs
    [IMG]

Two bottom controllers are connected to the switching board

Restored speedometer from the Soviet car GAZ M-20 "Pobeda" model 1949
    And two stylized gauges
    [IMG]

They were made by a professional vintage cars restorer from Voronezh city
    [IMG]

    Speedometer
    [IMG]

The dismantling of the factory fastens. They've been attached with the contact welding, so it had to be drilled.

The caverns that appeared after dismantling fastens are sealed with brass and polished
    [IMG]

    Fitting new fastens
    [IMG]

The fastens are adapted to the desired length and soldered with brass
    [IMG]

To cover multiple factory holes in the speedometer I used plates of 0.5 mm steel made with laser cutting
    [IMG]

All the extra holes are covered
    [IMG]

The next is powder coating. The insides were protected from getting paint with aluminum tape
    [IMG]

Double-sided adhesive tape for mounting the LED strip
    [IMG]

LED strip with warm white light
    [IMG]

    Inside
    [IMG]

    Connecting
    [IMG]

    And reassembling the gauge
    [IMG]

    The speedometer is ready
    [IMG]

    Two stylized gauges
    [IMG]

Surprisingly, they had a tin can as a case :)

After a few hours of wandering around grocery stores with a ruler I found the right can. It was filled with olives :)

Now I can make mounts that will fit on the front panel
    [IMG]

    The cans after machining
    [IMG]

    The fastens are mounted
    [IMG]

The bottom of the can is hardened with 1 mm steel plate
    [IMG]

    Powder coating
    [IMG]

    Connecting the insides
    [IMG]

Inside I also mounted LED stripe with warm light
    [IMG]

    Two little gauges are ready
    [IMG]

All the gauges are prepared for instalaltion
    [IMG]

    Gauges placed
    [IMG]

The speedometer will show the CPU load
Two little gauges will show the utilisation of storage space and amount of used RAM (both in percentage)

That's the look of the original speedometer in the car interior
    [IMG]

OK, hands up who's seen an olive can used in a case mod. Nobody? Didn't think so.

This is a fantastic, inspired, project. My vote for mod of the month.

    This is amazing!

What are the other (rectangular) instruments in the original car? Radio or similar?

I figure that to use the clocks as you indicated you'll have to do some electrical circuit ?, or connect to somewhere special?.

This mod is amazing, i've been following from the beginning.

For indicators need a PCB with microcontroller and software.
This parts will be in the next update

That switch box / electronics cluster is amazing, so much in such a small space!

How much wire trimming was required to get it quite so well packed without too much? Or is it just experience that you know how to estimate and measure it? Does it have any overheating concerns, or do those boards not kick out a lot of heat?

Once again I am amazed how much effort you have put into this. The custom wiring loom is superb, really fantastic work. And the stop motion animation is the icing on the cake. Love what you have done with the dials too, again this shows just how fantastically talented you are. Brilliant!!!
