Now that the card has been inserted in the necessary orifice. What now? Someone mentioned overclocking, is this really needed? If so how is it done bearing in mind I have only ever tampered with a GPU and that almost ended in disaster.
It certainly stands out in that case, though I quite like the GPU being a bit in your face compared to the rest of the machine. Unless you're tying to show off with high benchmarking scores or doing something that specifically requires pushing your components to their limit, there's very little reason for overclocking your card so I'd say just leave it as it is. For gaming, you'll likely find that it will perform absolutely fine on the stock settings.
Time to join in. http://www.3dmark.com/fs/4107887 Absolutely loving the subtle logo/text backlighting... perfect match for my case lighting.
Aesthetic issues aside, the 980 backplate is not flat but fairly deeply grooved and contoured, with an extra chunky bulge where the SLI 'flap' is. You'd need a very thin and flexible vinyl sticker in order to conform to it.
It is actually pretty flat. Just one raised part towards the power connections. Absolutely no 'chunky bulge' where the SLI connections are and certainly no flap in that area. I think I will cover it and see if the overall look enhances my colour scheme. Easily removed if not.
Would the heat not cause it peel off? I had a bad experience with some noise absorbing foam recently, which I'd stuck around the outside of the 5.25" bays to dampen the noise of my pumps. The heat from the pumps not only cause it to peel away from the case, but also managed to separate the 2 layers
I had the stuff covering my 2 GTX 670's with no peeling issue's at all so I don't think that this be a problem. I think I will do it now, will post back with an image if I am happy with the result.
OK tried the white 4D Carbon Fibre Vinyl Wrap and it did not look good at all so that idea is a no no. As for gaming, not really as I have not got anything that takes my fancy at the moment. I bought A story about my Uncle but that will hardly test a 980. I am struggling through Alien Isolation but am struggling to get into it. I still have a second playthrough of COD: AW but I found the first so boring I am not rushing back to relive that any time soon. Could play FC 4 for a third time I suppose. Or have a look though my quite extensive Steam catalogue for something to play.
