Evening. Anyone use Norton Antivirus Gaming Edition 2009? Is it more of a gimmick or actually useful? Also does it work with Windows 7 64bit? Thanks for any help.

Well, its made by Norton, so I'd always steer well clear. Infact, I'm not sure if I can steer clear enough, the universe isn't big enough.

I noticed it in HMV and it was fairly cheap (£17.99) and I thought it would be better than AVG free edition that I currently run.
I have used Norton in the past and it did slow my old PC down alot, but this gaming version seems more streamlined and my new PC should handle it better. I just wondered if anyone had been using it.

While Symantecs Norton line has improved compared to how bad it was, I'd still avoid it. Avast! or AVG are superior overall.

If you must pay for antivirus then ESET NOD32
If you like free stuff, then Avast!

Norton don't do anything to make themselves worthy of taking anyone's money.

If your looking for a great Internet Security/Anti Virus

Go for the new AVG 9.

I can say after beta testing and purchasing it is by far the better one out atm.

N2009 is better than previous years, system-load wise, but still, if it's a 'gaming' edition it's probably just got horrible flashy animations and one extra firewall rule (for detecting server ports or something) programmed in...

My vote goes for Avira Free :thumb:

COMODO Internet Security. Best one I've used so far.

For my win 7 build I've settled on Microsoft Security Essentials, it dealt with everything I've deliberately thrown at it, including a few pieces that Avira & Nod both missed. I'm very impressed with it.

COMODO seams to have too many feature and it crowded, it isn't bad but I prefer AVG because it's so simple

Norton "gaming edition" is a normal edition with loads of stuff turned off under load.

It's the same pile off kack.

In away norton have admited that.

It's great, it such a rescource hog that when you game it will lag out, so we made a version that turns itelf off when you game.

I use endpoint 'cos I do some work from home.
It may seem like splitting hairs as endpoint and norton are both symantec
but end point is small and unobtrousive, the dfeault install seem to work well.

That method will probably lead to serious pwnage by trojans at some point in the future, I'd be a bit more proactive about it.

Comodo is a bit hypochondriac for me, it throws up epic fullscreen-breaking alerts every time any application or process so much as farts, I got tired of it.

Currently use bullguard, an expensive paid solution but the firewall and definitions are excellent and the interface is minimal and generally lacks interrupts.

The best Anti-Virus for people who don't want to pay is certainly AVG it works well and not had many problems with it. For users would pay for Anti-Virus NOD32 is the way forward runs well and not a system hog. Norton is annoying friggin pop-ups and it SLOWS you machine down. The best symantic software is Ghost !
