It might be a HD5670 chip, which by all means isn't bad, just not as good.

Still it's not too good a concept to use since it sucks up lanes, if it was relatively low powered perhaps it could use a X4 lane instead?

So in fact its performance increase will be marginal when paired with a 5850+. Not only that but when you think about installing a next generation GPU, the 'future-proofing' will be negligible.

It's a 5450, if you actually ask Asus at the booth.

If so then this isn't news, all of the board manufacturers have been buying up cut down integrated graphics boards for years (G31/G41). This is pointless since we already have the intel solution of i3/i5 which from the get go are supposed to be cheap.

What's the form factor of this thing? Does look a bit too big for standard ATX. Is it E-ATX?

One thing I've been wondering since hearing about the Hydra chip: How does PhysX come into it? Does it stop working if an ATI card is present (I'd expect it to)? Or is it disabled overall, even if all the cards are Nvidia?

Effectively, the board could force people to favour ATI over Nvidia due to potential PhysX problems, though in reality the kind of people who buy this board will most likely be enthusiasts who'll know about this.

PhysX will never work with AMD cards if nVidia has anything to say about it.

I know and it's one of the biggest dick-moves I've ever seen :miffed: .

I still wonder if the Hydra chip affects PhysX though?

I wouldn't doubt detection of the Hydra chip will disable PhysX if this board gets popular, or if the idea takes off. Would certainly be interesting to see if any heat goes to Lucid directly as a means of stopping any ATI mixing at the source.

Does the GPU mix allow me to play Nvidia 3D with an Nvidia card and still
get the best out of ATI cards which I prefer?

The chip is undoubtably a redwood die, so either asus stuck it on there for a cheap non working sample (instead of a juniper die) or something has gotten lost in translation.
