However, the article seems to refer to older, back catalog, programs. One would assume that we will not be excluded from that. To be fair, I'd pay a certain amount to get my hands on even DRM'd old Dr Who, at least partly because just finding the DVD's is damn hard, and I'd also hope this was a fair bit cheaper than them.

How about opening up the archives?

There must be plenty of movies and mini-series languishing in the archives. Shows we can't get in the U.S., even on dvd.

As a child during the early-mid fifties I used to watch the BBC Children's Television show, Whirligig. Even to this day, I can remember the signature tune it had. If I could get any show from the BBC archives, it would be this one. It would bring back marvelous memories of a time long ago when TV was black and white, 405 lines.

who is going to buy these?
before iplayer i had a login on a regulated community torrent site
you had to be invited and you had to upload as much ass you downloaded
but that wasn't exactly hard to do and you got access to almost every tv show in the uk
all high quality and they often showed up on the site about 10 minnits after the program ended

i thought that the bbc where just going to release torrents on the world wide web in a free for all
you cant charge and regulate torrents
thats like charging people to loot a store lol
