My intention wasn't to make you feel bad, I was just standing up for the fair city It's just that people get their backs up when you speak ill of the place they were born and raised, or live and love. I always have a great time when I visit Dublin - we go Christmas shopping there in late November every year we can make it

There are assholes and idiots everywhere. There are times that I encounter one almost every time I go near Belfast, but I know plenty of extremely agreeable and friendly folks from there as well. As someone has already said, the vast majority of people that you meet when you visit here as a tourist or visitor will be happy to see you, friendly and welcoming. There are still a few "hardliners" in the ROI who will turn their nose up or be arrogant to someone with a British accent, but I'd like to think that's a very rare occurrence. I only know it's the case because I've seen it happen, once. The cultural diversity of the population in Dublin compared to pretty much anywhere here in NI is something that I've always admired, and I assume that it makes a majority of "natives" very welcoming to visitors and tourists, no matter who they are or where they're from. I've likened Dublin to somewhere on the continent before, especially if you're there on a nice warm, sunny day and there are droves of people around

 

Oi, it's usually just a short journey out of Hull to somewhere MUCH more pleasant...

I know, I just naturally feel that way. Yes, there were many nice parts of the city, but 75% of people there were Albanian, Romanian, Polish and similar, and they were rude. All of the locals there were mostly homeless on the street and drinking themselves to death while all these shops were being taken over by foreigners. Every street- every second shop was either a phone shop or a Polish supermarket. My dad compared the smaller streets to the streets you see in Nigeria.

I wasn't intending to truly badmouth the place, but what I've described was a sad thing to see.

 

Even Hull has its pretty Victorian bits in the city centre. And of course it is surrounded by some nice countryside and villages.
