Hey, Do many Motherboards come with built in Wireless network connection? Would be good to know as i am going to build a new system soon and although i am not against using a wired connection as this is what i will be using most of the time, wirelss would be handy. Cheers Lee
Very few motherboard comes with a wireless connection. Usually small format boards CAN come with one, as it's usually used as a media center computer of sorts. It's best to buy a PCI or PCI-E wireless card, if you want one.
asus occasionally release boards with wifi on, cue Bindi my current board asus p5k deluxe wifi is an older example
' Ah yes, but these are region specific. ASUS never released an ATX motherboard with wireless card in Canada. The manual talks about it, but it's never in the box. (and there is a star that leads you to some fine prints that says just that, in the manual) These are crap... Range is super short due to the small size of the USB key. You need an antenna for a good start. Usually PCI cards are also better than USB sticks
Agreed, but super cheap ... the range reminds me of my old logitech wireless keyboard/mouse. Had to place the receptor30cm away from the set
Not always are the small usb ones bad. I got one recently an edimax, and it can pick up every nearby wifi that my atheros pci-e card can. Speeds are pretty good for 150mbps. But to answer op question, there are very few, most by asus. There are lots of mitx that come with a wifi pci-e mini card fitted.
Thanks for the responses guys, as i say in OP was more of a nice to know question as the new build will be near my router anyway (well a few metres of cable across the living room floor wont bother the wife too much eh!!). so maybe i will just get one of those dongle things aswell n case i do move the machine upstairs or what ever Chris im planning on getting a socket 1155 to use a i5 2500k Cheers Lee
