That ebay thing is just incredible. Do you know if he/it is actually making them or just scamming everyone?
Scamming. Note how he/she/it says that it will take a month to build and the buyer will be updated with pictures. They're just going to feed the buyer worklog pictures for a month and then walk away.
Justice has prevailed. He took it down after sending me a note apologizing. I told him that he got it wrong though. It is not my design and I don't care if he wants to make money off of it (Thermaltake might though). The photographs however are mine and well..blah..blah. Considering the costs and timeframe I think his little venture would have turned out very badly for him. Thanks for all the advise and support guys.
I think that's one of the first things designers learn, WaterMark your photos, I normally just keep a extra layer with a pattern called watermark in photoshop, But as its just general photos, surly theirs a simple free program to do it for you? These little websites which do steal your photos don't make much money anyway, Well very little in fact, It's normally just kids trying/playing around experimenting.
that guy on ebayusa is a ***. if ebayusa contacts you, provide them with images with the watermarks on. its such a shame that there are so many low lifes in this world edit: ahhh i see, sorry i thought the last post the OP said was regarding the websites. good to see he at least had the decency to say sorry.
Damn scary what goes on. WE have people coming into my store and stealing dummy mobile phones and do scams and sell them to innocent people. Company won't let us scratch or write dummy on the phones either
You can thank me if you like : After following that build for so long I was damned if you someone was going to pass off your designs as their's, to a lesser or greater extent. Glad he saw the error of his ways though- he can build his own mini-PC and post pictures of his design that he intends to sell, not someone elses...
Late to the party, I know... But... Copious amounts of epic win for a community that bites back at assholes that steal work from its members. I am thoroughly impressed.
Here's a new twist... http://www.allquests.com/question/2900870/Project-Skyscraper-Photo-PC-Completed-Aug-1st.html My Skyscraper work log lifted verbatim from bit-tech including members comments. The source link at the bottom goes back to the original (and only) work log here at bit-tech. There is no link to my website and I'm hosting all the photos. How does this work and doesn't bit-tech have some interest/responsibility for securing the content published on their site? Very confusing. Apparently this has existed for awhile (2008) but it has gotten a lot of traffic lately. I can tell because I'm paying for the photo bandwidth. I think I would like someone from bit-tech to explain this one to me.
Could have picked any number of cooler mods you have done! Not that this one isn't cool. You have some fantastic ideas. You and Langer got me into mini-ITX and nano-ITX, and now my pico-ITX. I have seen some of my photobucket pictures as far away as Russia. Wish I knew how to watermark or do those cool little banner things on pics. john
For watermarking, picasa works pretty well (especially if you use google for image mgmt) http://www.fryan0911.com/2009/06/how-to-add-watermark-on-photos-using.html
I have actually tried Picassa. I might try it again later. Shouldn't a watermark cover at least a portion of the photo's subject to be effective? Here's my crude laughable attempt... I haz no skillz.
There's a program called VSO Image Resizer that batch resizes and watermarks images. I used to use it, but since I haven't faced issues with folks stealing my images, I don't bother anymore. It's definitely worth a look, though.
