    Quick question.

Is there any software out there that can convert a pdf into doc file? I've done a google search and there seems to be plenty of sites that offer this. I want to be able to edit the text in the pdf file.

What is the best way? Is it reliable?

    Thanks.

A google search for converting them with "free" on the end gives more searches than I can count, some of which can actually do it.

The best advice is to try a few until you get the best results!

You don't always need to edit. If the text information in the PDF is entered as text, you can usually just copy and paste the text out to a document (and format it after), but some people scan documents so the text is saved as an image - no go.

It's a PITA, but if that's the case you can screengrab each page, crop everything but the page out, save it as a tif in photoshop/gimp/whatever and use something like Microsoft Office Document Imaging (or any other OCR software) to OCR it and get the text out.

I use a "pro" pdf to word converter at work: http://www.nuance.com/. They also have a free online service.

There's a need in my job to get accurate conversions rather than just text output and so far it's been quite reasonable. I don't have the latest version, but the one I've got has done the job pretty well.

I usually open them on my mac with preview then save them out again.

All permissions are then stripped & I can do what I want with it
