    Hi there...

So lil' Freds looking for a new rig... I've got it down to 4 Gigs of Corsair DDR2 and an Asus Mainboard... probably a formula II... or maybe an amd based system... going to take the graphics to the new system...'tis a Gainward 8800 GTS GE... but! I just don't know what CPU to take...

I play alot of WoW and FS2004 / FSX... and I do alot of image crap mainly for Internetdesign etc... and that's basicly it. I have no idea, if an Intel dual core around 2.8 - 3.0 Ghz would be best, or a quad core around 2.4 Ghz or a respective AMD CPU... I just know, that I don't want to spend a fortune on the CPU so $300 / €250 is the max.

    What would the pros suggest?

    Cheers

    Fred

A fast Wolfdale dual core or a Q6600.

Cheers atanum... the Wolfdale E8500 at 3.16 Ghz & 2x3072KB seems a fair buy for €154... the Q6600 would be 2.4Ghz & 2x4096KB at €137... seems I'd be getting more out of the dual core here under WinXP, would that be correct?

You'd see an improvement on the Q6600 for your graphics, along with any video encoding. Not to mention newer games are starting to take advantage of 4 cores.
