I posted a thread a while back asking for suggestions for a budget QX9650 build. I got the proc from a friend at Intel but I don't have very much money to build a proper system for it. Here's what I came up with- how does it look? Motherboard- Asus P5Q, P45 chispet, Price $129 RAM- Corsair 4GB (2x2gb) DDR2 800, Price $67 Video card- Nvidia 8600GTS, Price $60 Hard Drives- Already have them, two 500GB drives in Raid0
Please don't buy an 8600. They are aweful. Either make him go for something like a 4850 or just buy the very cheapest card possible.
If you plan on doing gaming, don't go with an 8600, you can get cards with twice the power at around the $100 and the HD 4850 which can be found around $175 is multiple times better. You would be better to drop the motherboard down to something like a GigaByte P35-DS3L and use the money to get a better graphics card.
Thanks for the suggestion! I think I'll go with the Gigabyte P35-DS3L mobo. Are you sure it supports the Quad-Core Extreme Edition? Guess I'm going for the 4850 then! I heard they run really hot- should I be concerned? Thanks again for all the help.
Actually my friend gave me the CPU, but the case I have is a nice aluminum mid-tower with two 80mm's up front and one 92mm in back. It has a 500w power supply, and I'm putting the Artic Cooling heatsink on it.
can't you sell the CPU and build a q6600 based computer without spending a penny? surely that makes more sense, all the components you've mentioned really won't bring out the best of that Intel Extreme CPU
