Something Old Something New Something Borrowed Something Blue. Brilliant. I've loved this season to bits. I really didn't know what to make of Matt Smith at the beginning, but he's now officially the Doctor.... To me at least. And River Song? Best. Who. Character. Ever. Is she an older Amy? The Rani? Someone else? I don't care - just more River please! Best line of the whole series from the first part (last week's episode): “I hate good wizards in fairy tales. They always turn out to be him.”
I must say that I really wasn't sure about Matt Smith when I heard he was the next doctor, but he has so much energy/crazyness that I must admit he's become one of my favourites. Plus the fez was a genius touch.
Looks like we get to find out more about River in the next series (judging from her closing line just before she zapped off)... I loved the last two-parter - it seemed more measured than RTD's previous finales - less frenetic, fewer bangs, much less over-reliance on the Daleks/Cybermen/Sontarans trying to take over the world (again )
I really didn't know how they would end the series effectively but I think they did a good job. There was a lot of stuff they had to squeeze into 55 mins!
And Fezes are cool! But overall a good ending to a good season for the new doctor. Bring on Christmas!
Have to say I've just watched and don't agree... The Smith episodes seem under written and aimed at the masses, whereas the previous Dr Who's seemed more Simpson-esque in that everyone could get something from them. The plots are too obvious after a key moment currently, there's too much explanation of what's going to happen, and characters seem to miss the obvious point (River not working out that the Dr was planning on Tardissing the Pandorica was a very head-desk moment here) I think they've lost their way slightly, my favorite so far being the Van Gogh which I believe was written by Curtis instead of the usual team. Having said that, Karen Gillan is almost my perfect woman, which pretty much makes up for it... Hopefully the next series will continue the slight improvements the last few episodes seem to have made over the dull first few (having said all that I loved the first one)
I enjoyed it but I think he got out of the pandorica way to easily after making a great big deal about it.
Lots of plot holes... but you don't watch Doctor Who for those anyway. I thoroughly enjoyed it - I did think that they'd ended the season after the previous episode though. I should have known that Doctor Who would have to have a happy ending.
I thought it was great, in fact on reflection I think the whole season was great and Matt Smith is really good. You should have a different Doctor when he regenerates and we got that, it would have been awful if he tried to be like David Tennant. I also reckon that Amy Pond is one of the best assistants there has been and I second the call for even more River Song, a great character well acted. I did enjoy the "Ask for mercy..." sequence very much.
