Looking at putting together a 4 drive Raid 5 array for my next system, the card in question is:

    Adaptec 3805

Which four drives should I hook up to it?

    4x Seagate 7200.10 500GB
    4x WD RE2 500GB

Just to complicate matters, if it were just a case of chosing a drive I would probably chose the WD units. However is the extra price premium worth it?

    Seagate:~£63
    WD:~£80

That would work out to ~£68 more for the WD setup, however from what I had seen around, the WD's are quiter, cooler and possibly better suited to a RAID configuration.

Oh and with a storage subsystem like this, do you think i would benefit from running a 150Gb Raptor boot/games drive (The game data is largely expendable should the worst happen)

    Thoughts and ideas welcomed :)
