Finished motherboard tray, with white enamel epoxy coating. same type of super glossy finish you find on kitchen appliance. it leaves a very good finish, almost like the automotive polishing method. but set up time is quite long. up to 9 hours before dry to touch. i left the pci retention black for contrast effect. i've also applied the edge trim around the cable pass though. i got a very slim kind and it is extremely difficult to get on the metal edge. i work it on using a small flat screwdriver to spread it apart as i push it around the edges. even though my metal is smooth, i use the edge protection to be super sure not to fray power cable. i also think it adds a nice detail with some black to contrast.

finished painting of radiator as well, same finish. i also have the ek radiator mounts to create a spacing between the radiator and fans.

received a new ssd today. the mushkin callisto deluxe 60gb. this will take over as my main drive, replacing the old intel x18m gen1. the intel drive will still be used for holding my mp3 and other user files in turn replacing old scorpio blue. goodbye mechanical disks.

and i leave you with this teaser picture. full update to follow soon.

I'd say put some/most of your games, etc on it instead of MP3s. 80GB should be plenty to hold a bunch of modern games + mods.

Investing in any a tool like a Dremel would be a good idea for modding imo. You can easily find something like a B&D RXT ( I use one and imo, it's better than a Dremal branded one, more power and speed control) for around $20-35.

Good luck and hope you have better luck with this build.

thanks, i work on dj sets a lot more than gaming, so i use the space for that.
i had a b&d 3speed tool, but the motor died. i might need to get a new one for when i start on the plexi part, as i will need to cut small detailed things, but not all the way through it.

Interesting mod so far, I like the shape of the frame :)

And I, for one, love the photographs! :)

Can i recommend if youe using the Zenit-E swap the lens to the Helios clean the light sensor and use a soft flash gun.
Or what it on a tripod and leave the exposure open a tad longer should sharpen the images up no end.

    Interesting build coming along

    thanks singularity and legoman.
i'm trying not to talk photography... but, i'm already using helios prime as my other m42 lens are tele. i have a macro on the way that i ordered a few weeks ago, but its coming from ukraine so i probably won't get it really soon. i always keep cameras clean. if i'm feeling motivated i might go around to storage and drag out tripod and powerlights, but probably not till end for 'beauty' shots.

here we are painting in my high tech paint set up, which is an old sheets on the floor. we have all of the metal pieces - the motherboard tray, the tray support, the reverse support, and the psu bracket.
the motherboard support after final painting, we have some fan holes, and hole for cable routing as well as 4 stand off for mounting the motherboard tray.
here we have the reverse support where the psu, rad will be placed. it also has fan holes and cable holes.
this is my power supply mounting bracket. i had some problems drilling the hole in the correct spot on the lower left one, i tried to make it artistic looking to cover mistakes. i'll probably make a new one when i have some time.

while we were waiting, i also had done my mx revolution modifications, and some sleeving. here are the results:
sleeved the akasa fans with white braiding and heatshrink.
sleeved the pci-e 6 pin cable in black and white. this one was real hard. mushkin did not want it to come apart. i could not remove the pins from the connector and had to cut them off. once i had them off i discovered that the braiding on it was the ground wires itself coated in rubber. this made it impossible to braid it the way i wanted too. also in the cable towards the end is a ferrite choke, and the end that plugs into the gpu has a bunch of resistors and capacitors soldered in line everywhere... it was not fun, but i managed it in the end. i also replaced the stock blue connectors with black ones. the other cable is a scratch made with just plain black wire and white heatshrink at the ends.

and my mx revolution, which i had dissembled and vinyl dyed the main body piece in white, on the right grip side i applied some white leatherlook to improve the grip. i wanted to replace the green battery meter led with a white one. it proved impossible to get to without a specialist 90 degree screwdriver. couldn't get to screw in between 2mm space to unhook it from the plastic body piece, so i had to leave it.

now we are ready to try an put it together.
here is a view from the rear
    [IMG]
    the power supply side
    [IMG]
    and the motherboard side
    [IMG]
first we attache the psu bracket. i have drilled and tapped for 6/32 bolts and applied 2 rubber spacers to support the psu from sagging
    [IMG]
next we attach the fans, as they help hold it all together
    [IMG]

next we attach the radiator with the ek support brackets to the fans
    [IMG]
then the psu and route the the cables through to the motherboard tray
    [IMG]
a closer view of how cable routing goes
    [IMG]
    and from the motherboard side
    [IMG]
which we have attached the tray and motherboard to the other side
    [IMG]
    and we end with this
    [IMG]

and the proposed location of the res, which will be next.
i had a problem with the location of the ddcpx pump and it won't be possible. i ordered a new laing dd with ek white pom top so i will wait for it to arrive. in the mean time i'll get started on the plexi parts. until next time...

Gotta say this 'case' looks real nice, and I for one love the photos. Have a sort of steampunk-esk-ness about them, almost looks like the mode was done in the 1910's and you have just uncovered these old photos from the loft :)

Really nice work dude, but you've got to sort out some decent pics, it looks like you've got a smoke machine going.

sorry, was apparently caused by light leaking into the scanner. i reviewed the negatives and they are crystal clear. i've re-scanned the worst of them and also disabled the scanners 'auto correction' to stop it from being too aggressive with the contrast and saturation.

I don't get the pics... ...are they meant to be that bad quality?

On the other hand I think that the case looks mega, I like the style. My sort of thing!

Would make sense, im guessing your using a negative scanner rather than developing them.

yes, i develop the negatives, then use ovt scanner. its kind of hit or miss. all of the negatives look good. now if only i can get the scanner to do them all as clear as the pic of the motherboard tray support with the fans in (image 5 from top from last pics post)...

    thanks boscoe.
