All we need is grid controlled chargers to enable this for all existing EV's. Something like this for all parked cars: https://octopus.energy/intelligent-octopus/
I think you are thinking of vehicle-2-grid/home in cars and home battery to completely flatten a household demand. This would be much better but I agree, it'll not be likely in the near future.

It's a shame CCS is shoved on us by European car manufacturers. I've signed up and waiting to hear back from this for my 2014 Nissan Leaf using Chademo:

On the "no solar for (most) farmland" thing, d'you know who's on the side of common sense and justice? Jaco... Sorry, something stuck in my throat. Jacob R... Ja... Jaco... Mr. Rees-M...

Nope, can't do it. Here's something he wrote... for The Gruaniad on the topic. Granted, he's on our side for maybe a different reason - he says it's not fair to tell farmers what they can and can't do with their land, and wants to encourage solar adoption in businesses by pushing for deregulation - but still. Unexpected.

To paraphrase whoever it was who said it originally -

They do the right thing only after they've exhausted the alternatives.

Or as i keep saying -

Think of the dumbest option/outcome, and whatever they end up doing will make that look like unbridled genius.

Well, that price guarantee didn't last long:

A scheme to cap all household energy bills for two years will be cut from April as the government looks to save money, the new chancellor has said.

    Wonderful.

Still, it's going to be a long hard year, a lot can change in that time.

At the moment it seems a lot can change in a week with this clusterfrak of a party in control.

Be honest, does that surprise anyone, with this lot in charge?

It's like they're on some kind of country-wrecking trolley dash mission.

Somewhat controversial but I think ending the support after winter is the "right" way to go. Get's people over the winter peak usage but prevents prices being kept artificially high because government hand outs to oil companies (though global pricing would probably counter this). My hunch is that gas prices will stabilise at a more reasonable level next year as the panic of Russian gas being cut off will have abated and buying from other sources is normalised. After all the global production of gas hasn't materially changed just the markets into which the produced gas is sold.

That's only what they're saying this week... next week they'll probably be saying something different...

We the pubic at large might learn what the govt intends to do in April at some point in July.

Not at all surprising. It's about time.... er.... time-of-use tariff are put into the spotlight. Hopefully this time next year, we can sign up for green tariff that is independent from fossil fuel prices but are time-of-use tariff only.

won't matter which tariff you sign up the energy delivered will most likely be via some form of carbon burning method as there's no magic happening that will change the infrastructure and how the power is delivered so the price will have to be somewhat tied to fossil fuel, so it'll just be some kind of rebalancing that happens to how it is priced.

Can certainly see time of use coming more widely into effect though to entice more people towards helping balance the load.

Frankly I am glad that it's only a 6 month scheme, it means that taxpayers' money is now going to be subsidising the already monumental profits of energy companies for only a quarter of the time that was originally announced.

Of course 6 months is nowhere near long enough for this absolute debacle that calls itself a government to actually come up with a credible long-term solution. 6 ****ing years wouldn't be long enough.

My energy supplier has committed to 100% renewable electricity supply and our gas usage is well below average. Why should my electricity rate be tied to fossil fuel consumption?

Spoiler alert: it's because the "energy market" is pure oligarchical greed.
