EPIC cooling! The one positive of the Palit card is that the mounting holes allow for this kind of modification.
If I had enough space I'd put an HR-03GT on the second card; if I wanted to put more money into it I'd get WC like bulldogjeff.
I've got a 3rd matching one and a water block coming soon, going to run it as a Phys X card just for the hell of it
That's impressive bulldogjeff! What fans are those? You either have a slow camera shutter or they are very very fast!
Slow shutter speed. The fans are on the triple rad cooling the CPU. They are the Coolermaster Sickle flow. I have all My fans running at minimum even in the middle of summer.
I'm taking advantage of the cold outside air (about 3C) and doing some benching. I've got the GPUs all the way up to 1087mV and the max load temp on the top card is 58C Trying to break 30K on Vantage, and I'm getting painfully close... had a great run at 875MHz but above that, system freezes! Edit: finally got 884MHz stable after upping the IOH PCI-E voltage. Could probably push for 900MHz but I'm too tired! 30,051 3D marks, and now time for bed!
Cheers By comparison, a single GTX470 will do approx 22.5K on the exact same system. Unfortunately I can't run 4.5GHz or the CPU craps out, but even with the CPU at 4GHz, 460 SLI at 800MHz or above absolutely files like a bat out of hell. This is my third SLI setup and I must say I'm really impressed with Nvidia this time round.
Eager to get my replacement PSU for some further testing now! Vantage seems to be quite popular, any reason 3DMark 11 doesn't appear to get as much love?
Come to think of it I did have an issue during installation that I managed to resolve. Probably some Windows .net framework installation as usual!
Yeah Mark11 is still a bit buggy but it does look very nice. Vantage runs real smooth and most people are familiar with it so it gives a good impression of performance.
Just updated the bios again, while updating I realised I had already updated back when they came out, nvm ^^
that's cool bulldog =] I wouldn't worry about unlocking the voltage and fan speeds- did this with a custom bios when they released the 460 last year and was well over 1.1v on air.. up to 1.132v if I remember right- keeping the temps under 74c with zotacs non stock cooler was a real pain in the ass though but I had a displayport on it at least! could go up to 2250 memory with artifacts, no point really.. 2150 was stable and ended up with 2100 for oc of 906/2100 on a really bad air cooler =]
It really is sickening how well these GTX 460 overclock! I'm going to see if SCAN will kindly refund the money I spent originally on the AX850 so I can source one somewhere else sooner. I'm getting Battlefield 3 withdraw!
I think they are one of the occasional bits of hardware that reach an almost cult status, because they are so good .
I managed to get my 920 to 4.74GHz with 1.6v earlier this year (with -10C air) so if the winter is as cold again this year I'll be vmodding the 460s and shooting for the stars
