I'm currently working on a In-Car-Computer, based on the VIA Epia motherboard, I've already got most the stuff (display, motherboard, Case w. 12V powersuply, GPS). But my main problem right now is where to place the Display. The Display So i Would be very thankful if anyone got any bright ideas to share. Car interior... The Display, in correct size compared to the image above.
Yes it does, (http://keyser.dyndns.org/misc/tft/tft01.jpg) But it's a bit in the way when put there, that's why i'm fishing for ideeas.
you could instll it into youg glove box on a hinge so when the glove box drops downthe screen rises so you can see it (only for map use thouhg, bbbaaaddd idea watching a visualisation or a dvd while driving)is that jsut a empty space under you head unit cos if it is then yo can modify it so a text only screen is there that gets feeds for track information & then when you want a map or something have it so the text lcd flips down & you can pull that screen out on a hnge any good?
Iv'e ordered one of those CarClip's, specific for my car I Hope it's able to hold the display, if it works, it will end up something like this:
Nice to hear you say it, although it's not.. It's a Mitsubishi Galant, year: 1997, great car, best iv'e had
bit posher than anytihg i could afford one word of warning tho, i dunno if its the same in your country but if yoru moving & have the screen displaying anything other than a map you can be in very hot water
They have to catch me first No, but seriously... I Don't think there's any law against it, although I haven't planned of displaying anything else than GPS/MAP and perhaps Winamp VIS / Playlist.
i think you would be better off using that to display a map linked to the GPS so you always have a map of a local area then use one of those parallel or serial alphanumeric LCD displays (think Matrix orbitial) in the space under your head unit to show winamp stuff nwo that would be cool
I was on the road for about 2 weeks this summer, with the GPS hooked up to my Notebook. Maby not the safest way to use it, but i had my friend as a map-reader Images here: http://keyser.dyndns.org/RoadTrip2k2/galleri.php?avd=alla (I'm not the dude with yellow hair). I'm using the Route66, swedish PRO edition, great navigation software
its not liek your going to stare @ a map when most gps computer programes have a big arrow telling you waht to do @ the enxt turnoff so you only glance but if it is displaying anything else then (in the uk) your in trouble as its supposed to be wired so it switches off when the handbrake is released
I got one of these: http://www.procase.com.tw/2677.htm It has a PSU that you can run of 12V, and it's small enough to fit under the passenger seat, so that's where i'll put it.
