My PC sits on the floor and in a darkened room it is hard to see my DVD ROM or the button to eject the disk. Due to my previous mods I have to feel around as if trying to read brail to find the slot and the eject button. I though about an overhead light in the face/bezel of the PC as done by so many others, but then this idea came to me for it is a much more elegant solution than just grafting a light on the bezel. This idea came to me in thinking about the car enivironment and how illumination of controls are done there... Anyway here what I modded and how it looks. The blue color really is more intense than the photos show and lighting is more uniform to the eye. It was a relatively easy mod taking 1 evening to do. My Plextor's next
WOW. That looks really nice... A good idea to give more light sexay modage and be functional *we need a dancing smilie* I want to see the Plextor, to see how that would look with a tray drive.
Well he still thought of it first. Either way no has done this yet: (From my insaine ideas post) "-Steathed drives with Plexy on front that entirly lights when drive is active. (Mabye with DVD or CDRW etched into it) You would open the drive using a proximity sensor, no touch, just wave your hand. (IR or Proximity)"
Thats really sweet. Wow, something similar might happen to my LL if I can ever get enough money and time to buy and mod it.....
Thanks for all your comments guys! Coolhand, The PC 68 is a classic that you don't see much of these days. Mine actually started life off as a PC65-U, I bought a second hand PC68 from another Bit-Tech member and just used the bezel off of it. I love the open grill look as it is remenisant of a supercar's front grill opening with the visable fans. Atomic, the LEDs came from LedTronics I just looked at my Plextor and it has a very thin top edge that may make the task a bit more difficult... I'll have to come up with a better plan. I did get a blue LED mounted into the grill area to replace the Grenn CC.. I'll post a pic.
Here is the just installed Blue LED in the fan grill. It looks much better all blue. I was just playing with the green Now to get to work on the Plextor
Hmm, I got some awsome idea's for this mod. (Which I was typing out in a reply) But, HEY I got to do it my-self first! (If I don't get it done in the next week, I'll post the idea's)
