Grrrr, my Vibe 12" sub that I got for £7 doesn't fit in my new car, really missing a decent sound system, :D

Snap, since having cars that come with factory fitted systems and any attempt to remove it means you loose other functionality I've given up on having something decent. I have to admit the speakers that actually came in my current car are very very good, but I do miss having the setup I had in my 1989 Nissan Bluebird.

A pair of infinity 6x9 speakers on the parcel shelf, infinity components in the front doors and a 12 inch sub with 350 watt amp in the boot. Because the car was built like a tank no sod could hear it on the outside world - I so miss that car :(

Joys of my diddy CDT can run in anything from a 0.8L sealed box :p

I know what you mean on loosing functionality. The under seat amp on my car went pop. Replacement was over £400 plus coding. Lost all sound and the actual car wouldn't start as the amp is linked via an optical connection to the dash, no amp no drive basically. Fudged it by making an optical loop back connector (plastic tube an sticky tape.

Ended up fitting an aftermarket headunit, fitting a new amp then new dash speakers because they were rubbish an now I'm putting the sub in. I was missing the door chimes, indicator ticks and the reverse sensor tones managed last month to get them back with some faffing and wiring. Only thing that doesn't work is the steering controls which ill work on once I have bass again. Last bit on the list will be fit my door speakers out my old car and add some sound deadening.

With my last car if you took out the factory fitted radio then you would loose all air con and heater controls, and because it wasn't installed it would fire of the immobilizer and the car would not start at all and when looking online there was no way I could have bypassed it.

Well, I got my tax refund, but got hit for some unexpected bills, plus my PSU died and I'm running on my only spare, so my 3D printer budget cut drastically...

Anet A8, in kit form, without the heated bed and auto-levelling.

Should arrive in a week or so.

    NOOOOOooooooooooo!!!! :jawdrop:

Heh. Your first test pieces should be things like 20mm cubes and cyliders :thumb:. My first full "proper" test print was a companion cube :D.

Yeah, just yanking your *ahem* chain.

Speaking of purchases - will any old paper-based masking tape do for the print bed, or is that blue Scotch stuff really worth the extra?

    Yeah, I got that :D.

I think it probably is worth the extra, in the long run. I've never had any tape residue left on my bed when I've had to change it, whereas when I've used cheaper tape on other surfaces it usually leaves some kind of residue behind. But it is a total PITA to get it juuuuust right with no gaps between the pieces of tape - unless you can find the really wide rolls of the stuff that will cover the entire bed in one strip.

The biggest down-side to masking tape is the surface quality of the print. You'll always have that pattern embedded in the bottom layer. It's not going to be a problem if the bottom of your print is not something that's going to be on display, but it can be a bit irritating if you're printing something upside-down. The easiest solution is a glass print bed. Cover it in a thin layer of Pritt Stick and you'll never have any bed adhesion issues - in fact it might actually be difficult to remove the print! The glue isn't strictly necessary for printing PLA, PLA will adhere to clean glass. But it has to be clean glass, as dust and contaminants will cause adhesion problems.

Baby steps though. No need to rush in to getting a glass print bed, and the basic paper masking tape you probably already have lying around will do for now :).

I've been telling myself that I'm not going to get a new watch until I finally treat myself to a Nautilus for my 40th, or 50th, or retirement...

Apparently that was unsustainable. Number 60, Black face/strap, additional blue/white NATO strap. Only need to wait until September for delivery :/
