Seeing as Novatech is selling a 4870 1GB at £170, presumably the previous price cut is starting to take effect... We can only hope.
Over here in the UK id say £170 for a 1Gb 4870 was a bargain, for some strange reason ebuyer have got a sapphire 4870 512 for £1 more expensive than the 1Gb version?
We do indeed get shafted. However, you can get 4870 1GB a fair bit cheaper than £235. See this, where there is a 4870 1GB with a fairly nifty custom cooler for £199. But that's the cheapest I've seen a nice model like that So much for $200 cards.. even at today's rates that should be ~£145. Even with 15% VAT that should get you the nice card for £165. Stupid England.
Just doublechecked the Danish prices. Considering an exchange rate of approx. 8.5:1 between DKR and GBP HD4870 1GB models cost between £200 and £270 with the majority costing about £235. And I thought UK buyers got shafted more, but apparently not...
That's why my cousin in Denmark wants me to buy his new core i7 rig from London and send it with DHL Road Service (up to 30kg for like £50). The pound is weak...
Sounds like a good idea. With the chance of getting a bit off-topic here, I really get ticked off about how OcUK (who're not necessarily known for their low prices) can offer a DELL 2209WA for £205 (or even £184 this week) while all time we're paying almost *twice* that here in Denmark (around £385).
Well, this is fun. Turns out that despite ATI requesting the price cuts, third-party board makers aren't planning on following through. [[ link ]] - Diosjenin -
Only a matter of time before one board partner concedes from the pressure of sales - then they'll all do it.
