Ok well i just got an old computer and i decided to take it all apart because it is quite and nice looking but old case so I am taking it all apart and finally got to removing the motherboard... Ok so i have removed the motherboard and was wondering to my self how do i work out what motherboard I can replace it with because I don't know the make or modal it is (can't seem to find it printed on it). So i was wondering how do I know what I can replace it with? is there something easy that I just don't know about?
Why does the board need replacing? Do you know what processor is in it? (should say on it?) How old is the machine, and if you can post pics someone should be able to work out what it is... RwD
If there is no lable or anything on the board itself, is there a name on the case? Should be able to look up what the board is if it was a store bought computer. Other than that, you are just concerned about mounting holes right? so you can throw in a different motherboard? just take pics of it and post them here.
Well the mobo i am going to guess is somewhere over 2 years old now. i will attempt to find out what processor is in it but there seems to be an old sticker over the text so i need to clean that up which will need to wait until 2moro now because it is late. i am not sure if it is store bought or not because of its age and being given to me by a friend. yes chrisb2e9 you are correct its just concern about if a new one will fit.
If you are just trying to re-use the case for a new computer, it is very likely to be a normal ATX case unless it is small (maybe uATX) or a P4 Dell (maybe BTX)
i wont be able to get any pictures up until 2moro due to my dad currently having my camera on a business trip. As soon as he gets back i will have a pic taken of front of case and mobo to see if anyone can recognise them.
ok got my camera back and also managed to remove the sicker from the Processor it is a Intel Celeron still having trouble removing the rest of the sticker. Mobo: http://i34.tinypic.com/71pe7l.jpg Mobo tray: http://i34.tinypic.com/2qn9ohk.jpg Case cover: http://i33.tinypic.com/11v2x6g.jpg
It looks a lot like this board: http://www.ciao.co.uk/Jetway__5410751 there are a few small differences but its generally the same. So I would say its an atx form factor.
so my next question is, if i was to buy a new modern mobo to replace it with are there any size issues or should most boards fit on the tray?
