make sure you have all of the latest drivers, disable anything like norton that may be running in the background, clean up the startup group using msconfig, what do u get for cpu/gfx individually?

I'd bet it is you don't have your Motherboard/AGP driver installed.

I probably don't. MY mobo didn't come with drivers for anything, they totally ****ed me over on that and free norton that was supposed to come with it.

Where should I install those drivers to? System32?

what motherboard do you have? just install the intel ifn update utility, it'll sort everything out, update your catalyst drivers after installing dx9b

3dmark is no true test (neither is aquamark, but its more accurate)

3dMark 03 is more of a graphics limted test, CPU is only a very small component.

Aquamark is much more host limited (CPU/MOBO/RAM) and Graphics limited so you see gains in both areras.

but when they change the way it interacts with the nVidia drivers, it kind of loses any sort of validity it had... all of a sudden with the new build, nVidia based cards lose 10% of their score... I know ATi cards are better at running directX 9.0 games in a very crude broad sense, but you can't just change a benchmark to fall inline with every other benchmark around, they've tried to hide their inability to code a "fair" benchmark, which has backfired on themselves rather heavily... shame on FM.

I just hope their next release of 3DMark is much fairer test...

bring back the days of 3DMark2001SE (I know it's an old test, and is very "system" dependant, but it's a pretty fair test)

The FM 340 patch, blocked the nvidia static clip planes (does not help performance, only there to cheat the rolling bench score) and blocked shader replacements cheats in nvidia FX drivers.

All they did is stop nvidia trying to make 3dmark do less work on there cards, as benchmarks are about running a fair (apples to apples comparision), it seems perfecly reasonable to make 3Dmark 03 more fair in workload.

I feel futuremark have *gained* respect from developers, graphics vendors and driver writers.

Not all that great no, but considering the hardware, it ain't that bad. And btw, both are air cooled, retro media center is extremely cool (room temp), and Red Sonja runs at a stable 43c/109f ([edit] at the cpu[/edit]).
