I dropped £450 on a month old Zotac 980Ti AMP! Omega edition a couple of weeks ago, but I won't start crying until actual prices/stock levels and benchmarks of 1070/1080s are out.

It will be a few months yet dude. Remember - you can't lose money on PC gear if you don't let yourself. I don't sell gear very often any more I just upcycle my other machines. That way I lose nothing.

I predict that it will be 1080 Founders Edition cards initially (quelle surprise !) and they will cost around £600. This will bring in all of your Titan like audience who want to show off. Then slowly but surely they will introduce the regular cards, then once they have mopped up sales from all of the posers they will bring out the 1070. Possibly founder edition first at a elevated price, then the regular cards later.

So I reckon it will be around three to four months from now that we will see the proper card to have (AIB 1070).

I do feel a little bit bad for people who bought 980ti recently. I bought two Titan Black for £700 each and three months later the 980 came out for around £450. I was gutted, but hey, live and learn.

When I bought both of my Fury X they were very cheap for that time. I won't lose any money on them as my wife will be getting them and I have plenty of time to be sensible and wait for the sensible 1070.

I lost a little on my old 770s admittedly, but I feel I got a fair amount of use out of them and like to help out those less fortunate to upgrade their current GPU.

I'm going to stop being a bellend now and just use my brains a little and stick with the "7" cards. I should have waited and bought a 970 and I am going to wait and buy a 1070 now. They are replaced once a year, which at around £300 or maybe £350 is sod all.

I used my common sense on my 670s and they are still in service (my step son). Those were £320 for the first one and £200 for the second IIRC. Might have been less? maybe £280 for the first one at launch and £180 for the second some time later?

But yeah, the sensible person would have gone 670/970/1070. The other cards are all over priced and you lose some savage cash on them.

I'll be holding out for the third party cooler variety 1070 and likely will drop on one December/January - I've been impressed beyond words with my ZOTAC 970 AMP! Extreme Core so will likely hold out further if necessary to see what they come up with :thumb:

And no one will care when the 1180 and 1280 come out because a single 1080 will be plenty fast enough to run all games at 4k until the xbox two 720 and the ps5 come out.

If the performance matches there reports 1 1080 will keep people going for years to come. For the bulk of people at 1080p very much overkill stuff but I am pretty tempted myself.

Might wait for some custom cooled editions before jumping in this time usually only a month or two after.

8gb video memory seems insane and outside of 4K it probably is.

The new SLI connector looks different, might make it tricky to install water cooling onto the card.

They showed a card at 2100mhz on air at the show just wow crazy if that's a standard of overclock. Custom cooler editions could come with warrenty with that speed out of the box.

Where's AMDs counter at surely they will launch similar time window.

As many people said on this thread, I believe that waiting for a custom variant of the Pascal GPUs is the way to go. I usually don't get hyped by new Graphics Card releases but the 1080 (if everything is true about its performance) is going to be good value for that performance and power draw.

    Anyone here with a GTX 970? :D

when will the Pascal card that is twice the power of the 980 be available from scan or over clockers?

if you have a 980ti is there a 1080ti version or do you simply upgrade to the 1080ti and be happy bunny about that?

Talking of which, with the comically low tdp of 180w is anyone else hoping for compact editions for smaller cases?

I highly doubt that we are going to see a compact edition of these GPUs. Most of the manufacturers will fit some massive cooler on them to achieve high overclocking. I mean, even the GTX 960 doesn't really have a small variant.

Yes indeed and I imagine we will get them for at least the 1070.

I'm hoping for semi-passive versions that can go in my work machine. Size be damned as long as it's silent 90% of the time.
