Its probably because of the HDD pricing and skt 2011 launch...

Middle of November and no buyers guide? I hope we will see a bumper December version to get us through Christmas and help us see in the New Year!

I can't understand why the article suggests buying the retail version of Win7 rather then the OEM version for people frequently reinstalling the OS?

I thought the retail version was the one u did need if u were always reinstalling the OS and changing hardware?

I've has an OEM version of XP Pro 32 Bit for approx 4 years. In this time I've reistalled the OS around a dozen times. Never had a problem

However, I have always been using the same MOBO.

The retail versions are quite a bit more in price.

Yup, if you reinstall on newer hardware, you have to revalidate the install. I changed my mobo twice, and all it needed to do was contact the MS servers. This was the retail version though, so I don't know what they'd do for OEM.

Yep, with the OEM version you're free to reinstall all you please on the same hardware.

The difference is that if you replace the motherboard it treats it as a new system and will want you to buy a new copy. Of course, people have gotten around this by phoning up Microsoft and explaining that it's simply a replacement motherboard for an old one that died and is effectively the same PC, regardless of whether or not it actually is.

I think we'll see a December guide, can anyone confirm or deny this?

Right now I'm wanting to build a new PC so I can't wait for the new version!

Finger crossed we get a new one soon!

Thanks for all your hard work guys, please continue to produce quality reviews and guides!!

Not entirley sure there will be a December guide. If you look at last year there was a gap between November and February!

Possible they want to wait until 2012 products are released to supply a further guide?

Anyway, no reason why the guide existing still can't be used for quality system building.

Please release a End of December/Start of January guide. Some of the products are not available on Scan any more! Like the Enthusiast/Gaming MSI motherboard. I am looking to build a computer around that time, been saving for awhile.

    Thanks!

You guys really need to update your prices, £40 it says for a 1TB Samsung SpinPoint F3, I was all happy until I tried to find one.... £95 not including postage from scan ! and they were one of the cheaper retailers.

There wont be any for the forseable future, however once everything is sorted it's definitely something that should be done again. Very poor show if it's not resumed given the nature of the site.

What's to be sorted? I thought these had been dropped permanently due to budget constraints.

edit - oh nevermind, the entire site's reshuffling itself, I hadn't caught on to this.

Will there be another buyer's guide this February? I've been wanting to build one for a while, but I've been too busy. Typical the one time that I was going to use it, there might not be one.

I can't find any like it; they're all either outdated or not very good.
