That's an odd config, with the sticks asymmetrical. I'm guessing that third seat is normally used by an observer? Edit: IMGP8719 by Neil, on Flickr Noot Noot.
Yep, pretty much, observer or a guy to assist with the winch (it's a utility/SAR/ASW helo) Good focus on Noot Noot, could've easily been ruined by the foreground branch.
Believe it or not, that's the Sigma 70-300 APO DG Macro which people are basically giving away at around £70 second-hand. It's not my favourite lens but it's long enough to shoot garden birds in the face during my lunch break. I can't tell if the bokeh sucks or if it was just clutter in the background. I'd invest in a better 300, but the Pentax K-1 comes out next month aanndd... I already have a full frame 24-70 on order.
That's got to be kind of a pain in the rear since the winch in on the left side of the aircraft and the pilot is on the right and can't actually see what he's doing. On US SH-60 and HH-65 the winch is on the right side, though even with that my understanding is that the crew chief lays on his belly with his head out the door to guide the pilot. Keep in mind that this is even more difficult at sea where there are no foxed reference points for the pilot to use in keeping the aircraft steady over a point in the ocean he cannot see. I wonder if the position of the winch on the left side of the Chetak is a weight and balance issue since having the pilot, crew chief, and putative rescue swimmer or victim all on one side of the aircraft during winching operations would make such a small helo uncontrollable.
Some SA-316 users have one of the three seats up front (usually the one on the port side) installed facing backwards to make winching less awkward, but I've never seen that on Indian helos, probably because they're not dedicated SAR birds. Not sure about the winch position, I think it just so happens that they put it on that side.

Finally something I can post (yeah, been doing a bit of nudie stuff lately ) Quite different to my usual, concept by the model, she told me what she was keen on for post production (ie. green smoke). Envy by Sam Dickinson, on Flickr
