please all take note... been today to see liver specialist and not good news....this is a warning to everyone who thinks this will never happen to you...................... i am one of those people who think what the hell or i will not have a drink tomorrrow .... i come from newcastle were trebbles and happy hours are great value when u r out ...................... lets get pissed and have fun..... been told today i have 10 to 15 yrs left unless i stop drinkin totally and change diet its not just the alcohol but also diet.... i am only 42 and started very young goin out on the town please be careful xx
Dude i **** you not this sent shivers down my spine.... Im sorry to hear such bad news but hopefully with a swift change of diet and drinking habit it will change and this will not be the case. I understand your warning though i drink on a weekly basis most of the time 4-8 cans on a satuday night if im not going out with the lads, but im trying to stop as even though its not alot its not a habit i want to get to be doing else its slowly going to increase. I always hear people talking about how they go out and get drunk and have no idea the concequences of there actions till it is almost too late, my uncle was an alcoholic and claims he is dying however much of a drama queen he is im almost certain he will not be around for long if he picks up that habit again. I know people of my age that have huge drinking problems and can are heading towards and early grave at only 19-20 years of age! how ridiculous is that Without offence i hope this will be a wakeup call for you and people you pass this onto you've got a lot of living left to do
if i can make just one person stop and think...i will be very happy...... i never thought this would happen to me. P L E A S E everyone be careful and not think it will never happen to you....because thats what i thought............
Well you a have atleast one... i just threw the rest of my beer (not just the one i was drinking) in the sink after reading this and swapped it for a glass of water i kinda feel like stopping it altogether at this point in time after reading this. as you said 10-15 unless you stop drinking kick the drink buddy its just become a bad habit swap it for a coke/Juice you have atleast a good 30-40years to go if not more This is a wakeup call for me if im honest i have a bad diet (i can't remeber the last time i had a piece of fruit) and starting a drinking habit thats just not good for me it may be little compared to some people but in long term its just not good outcome after reading this i hope you live way way way beyond 10-15 years more and i can't imagine being given that news at 42
Stop drinking mate, I almost drunk myself to death on a three year drinking binge got to 2 bottles of vodka in a hour I got soo drunk I was out cold for three days, Never drunk again thank god not had a drink in over 30 years now.

Excessive alcohol consumption damages your liver? Wow, who'd have thought it; I've been pointing out how foolish people are to piss their money up the wall constantly for a long time, it's hardly a new discovery that drinking too much and eating crap will shorten your life quite considerably. I'm just surprised that anyone should suddenly realise this and make a snap decision to change their habits over night after hearing what they should have already known might happen if you lead an unhealthy lifestyle... You have my sympathies though- hopefully you realise now what you have going for you & will turn things around
sorry to say this but i eat very healthy and i have have reduced my alcohol intake .....its not just about units!!! what i am tryin to tell people its about the long term problems it causes.... when i was 20ish i had a fab time...you do not think about it when you are younger.... its when you get older it kicks you up the .........................
all i am trying to tell people is its the long term damage it can cause please do not end up like me PLEASE LOOK AT WHAT YOUR INTAKE IS??? 'Excessive alcohol consumption damages your liver? Wow' WHAT A CLEVER T##T SUICIEDINEIL
Ouch man, that's not good. Sympathies to you. Managed to curb my nights out and drinking to once a week now. Don't touch alcohol any other day. Just the one night a week. Pretty shocking this!
Im around the same age, luckily i grew out of drinking about 10 years ago, i dont smoke either, (far too smelly and bad for you). However in 10- 15 years, with the uk being totaly fooked, im not sure id want to live another 15 years anyway. Crime will be ridiculous, no pensions, no jobs, no savings, no resources, over populated, no tax payers left to pay for the people on benefits, blah blah, so on and so on. So im thinking, 10-15 years will be about right for me.:.
Those government health recommendations of 14 units a week for a woman to 21 units a week for a man, including three days of sobriety, weren't just to harsh our party buzz, y'know. For most of us this is not the "Oh, ****!" moment that it is for you, I'm afraid. On the upside, 666painkiller: the liver is a remarkably robust organ. As long as you have not got massive cirrhosis yet, stop drinking now, and it will recover. Keep well within government recommendations and in a few years it will be as good as new.
I'm sorry you are in the state you are, but this is a slightly alarmist post. And misleading. While alcohol excess is a serious issue, liver problems are severely exacerbated by being over weight and out of shape. In particular there is the danger of visceral fat (fat surrounding the organs), something men have to worry about more then women. I have been drinking since I was 16, I have a history of being heavy, and I have seen not one but 3 liver specialists (not all at the same time). The liver guys were concerned about my blood values, and all 3 mentioned lifestyle as the culprit. In the last 5 years I have lost weight, got fit, and I eat moderately well. My liver values are barely on the "high" side of normal. I am willing to bet there is more to your condition then just your drinking as a wee lad. As Nexxo says, the liver is fairly robust. Barring a larger medical condition; it will respond to a better diet, getting yourself into great shape, and bringing your BMI into the range it should be. Granted, you should limit the binge drinking, but having normal alcohol consumption shouldn't shorten your life. Studies are even showing a glass of red wine a day is beneficial to heart health in the context of a healthy lifestyle.
just read your post....i am 6foot 3 and 15 and half stone.... i do lots of exercise ..apart from pc's my main interest is my 2 jack's (jack russell terriers) which i take out for at least an hour a day....i have stoppped smoking after having a tumor removed from my leg and dont drink much now...my problem is any fatty foods go straight to my liver....it can not break them down. i have been told by doc's to either live like a monk or take it easy and enjoy life....what i was tryin to say to every one is just be careful..... there are too many people here on this forum ready to pounce on anyone who says anything that not 'correct'.
Makes me glad I'm a virtual teetotaller(occasional drink when friends are in town). I wish you the very best with your recovery!
Pure fruit juice, tea, coffee, water and milk. Those are the only things I've drank for the past four months. I hardly ever drink alcohol any more... another "near as mankes no difference" teetotaller. I've seen what it does to people and I've seen it ruin lives and turn people who were once good friends into *insert derogatory expletive here* that I wouldn't want to be seen dead with or spend a second more of my life with. It really is poison, you know. This doesn't apply to me because if I have more than 4 drinks in a month these days, it's a lot for me, but thanks for sharing your advice. I hope it gets through to a few people.
