At the end of the day people are having fun, going out and getting some exercise and even socialising more than usual. All positive things.

Yes things have been overhyped somewhat by the media in places, but its not like the coverage isn't justified, this game has catapulted nintendos stock and has a very impressive active user count. The job of the internet media sites is ultimately to get the most hits they can and the best way to do that is to capitalise on whatever is popular at the moment.

Hey, makes a change from everyone playing those 'Jelly Saga' or whatever games on their commutes.

    Also I hit lvl 20 today :)

And that is the problem with going to work on the 'peasant wagons' that are buses lol! I'm so glad I drive to work in an air conditioned car with no one else to irritate the **** out of me.

After years of putting up with that particular misery, It will be a cold day in hell before I ever get a bus again...

i sideload it to my Android before it released in Canada.

    tried a couple days.

meh. more fun to read articles and reddits on how crazy this game is taking over the world.

but as i read the articles, i kept wanting to check some of the stuff they're saying too.

so i booted it up again. i mean, i walk to my bus stop every day anyway, right?

well, i do visit the park to accompany my daughter too i suppose.

hmmm well Home Depot is a big store and if i go end-to-end, GPS shows I actually go across a distance regardless of intermittent data connection.

    OMG LEVEL 10 WTFHAPPENED?????

    This.

I'm especially ticked off by older people, especially older men, moaning about Pokemon GO. There was that viral post of a notice some old guy left outside his garden; it was a very funny rant, but the gist of it was that Pokemon GO is lame, sad and a waste of time, and that people doing it should reevaluate their life choices.

Problem with that is, the mass of men prior to the digital age (and many men to this day) spent all their time sat in pubs staring into their drinks, reading tabloids, watching football or at home drinking beer and watching TV. Obesity is now an epidemic. Heart disease is now a leading killer because we all sit around indoors, playing video games, watching TV and surfing social media, stuffing beer, wine and takeaways into our faces. And now, for once, something is actually getting young video game enthusiasts outside, making them walk around and explore their local area, giving them a passion for travel and discovery, and this cantankerous old git has the ****ing nerve to deride it as sad and pathetic (edit - I mean the lawn sign guy, not the OP. You're cool, OP.)

Look, if you regularly kite-surf, climb mountains, hike across the highlands and go birdspotting, good for you; you are free to ridicule Pokemon GO players. If, though - as is vastly more likely - you sit around for hours of every day staring at a TV, newspaper or portable device, or regularly visit a pub and sit around getting drunk, you have no right to criticize Pokemon GO players, because their pastime is taking them in directions yours never will. They're learning curiosity, social interaction (I've seen entire groups of strangers united in conversation over it), exploration and discovery. Leave them the tits alone, for God's sake.

But yeah, I am sick of the media bleating on about it. It's just a frickin' game, find some actual news to report.

It's funny to me that OP created literally the only thread about Pokemon GO on the forum.

Is OP complaining about publications actually reflecting what's been present in people's lives? Damned if you do, damned if you don't I guess.

i like it. i play it casually. and for a casual like me (and probably most people out there), the changes/tweaks/nerf last few weeks doesn't have a huge impact. I still enjoy it while i walk, or on the bus, or showing Pikachu to my daughter.

I'm wallowing around lv13. I just don't have the time to walk a lot, my job and lifestyle don't easily accommodate it. I also keep running out of Pokeballs, and bafflingly all the easy low level crap Pokemon are starting to escape and run away more, wasting all my resources. Presumably a mechanism designed to gradually twist your arm into buying more balls with microtransactions.

I had a Pidgey escape 3 times and then flee, I mean wtf?

I have to say that its not something I want to play. I was never all that keen on Pokemon first time round late 90's early 2000. I'm quite happy to go out for a walk and enjoy my surroundings, I don't need to be immersed in a game that uses actual reality.

The number of people I have almost knocked over as they have jumped out into the street infront of me not looking where they are going just to catch something that isn't real, only to them look at me and make me look like I'm in the wrong for even driving down the road ? Almost every day.

The game really should have a safety mechanism inbuilt to it so that if your approaching a road which is busy the game shuts off or something.

I play and am at level 20. I walk to and from work every day, and have been more apt to not drive or get a ride with my wife because of the game. This also coincides with my new Fitbit and some general health goals I've made recently.

So I walk to work listening to a podcast or audiobook and play Pokemon Go while I walk. When I get homre or when I'm out doing something else with my family, Pokemon Go stays in my pocket. Every now and then I might pull it out if I'm in a new place (the pokemon species are localized to different areas), but for the most part I try to be 100% present with friends and family.

It's gotten me to walk different routes home from work, and to explore my neighborhood on my way home from work (think Family Circus' Wandering Billy comics). I really don't see the harm. I'm not doing a lot else with my time.
